Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathan Masterson.
Nathan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My woodworking business, Legendary Woodworks started in the summer of 2020, during the pandemic. It was a very trying time for our family. My wife, Brittany, a dental assistant, was off for a few months due to the lockdown, and so was I. More so me than her. Also, child care wasn’t operating, so someone HAD to be home with the kids. I chose to be that person. Seeing as my wife had an actual career path, and I was just installing office furniture. So any time that the kids stayed home, I had to stay home with them, which turned out to be a lot of time.
With money getting sparingly low, I had to make a decision on how to best start bringing in money to help support my family. I knew that operating something on my own without relying on anyone else, was really my only option. So I turned to the internet to just look for things that would make people money. I have seen lots of people doing lots of different things. I found a couple of people on Instagram that were woodworking! I had never tried it before, don’t have anyone in my family who dabbles in making anything, so it was a big leap for me! woodworking is what I decided on, it looked fun, and also looked like there weren’t many restrictions, it felt like possibilities were endless and anything I could think of in my head I could (try) to bring to life!
So without further a due, I hopped on Youtube and started watching countless hours of videos, on woodworking and how I could make profits off of it to help keep my family above the water! Teaching myself was difficult, it took lots of passion and determination to pretty much be doing all of this blindly with only some video help. I managed to get everything started up and just trying to spread the good word about Legendary Woodworks, build my business and create generational wealth for my family!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There has been no smooth road on this journey lol. Which was expected. Literally, almost everything at this point is trial and error. Every single project I have done has taught me something in one way or another. Either something about myself, or learning a new technique or process. But my determination, my passion, my ambition and my fire, keep me heading in the right direction, without any inclination of stopping.
As you know, we’re big fans of Legendary Woodworks. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My business is Legendary Woodworks. A custom woodworking company. The name says it all. What I build is Legendary. Quality is top of the list. I will not send any product out if I would not place it in my own home. You will find aspects of my work that are above and beyond others. I really like to make sure that my pieces are the most functional pieces they can be, tailored to the client’s persona. Trying to add more design features than any others. I don’t really have a specialty at the moment and I honestly don’t ever want to specialize in one thing. I want to be multifaceted in a few different genres. I like to lean more towards completely custom orders from clients that allow me and the client to express our most artistic sides. I also love working with epoxy and wood, it is such a beautiful sight to see! I can make pretty much a custom piece for anyone with any budget range! I want my business to be a place where anyone from any walk of life can come and place an order with me and get their dreams fulfilled!!!
What are your plans for the future?
Right now my business is only a side hustle. My plan for the year 2022, is to have my business as a part time job by the end of the year, and next year, I want it to be full time!
