Today we’d like to introduce you to Marie Dillingham.
Hi Marie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Well to honestly, I started back when I was 10 – 11 years old, my grandmother used to clean the channel 5 studios and offices, there I met her good friend Dorothy Fuldheim. She used to have me read stuff to her and correct spellings and things of that nature. She had originally taught me story reporting, we had lunches together and she taught me everything in the studios, and outside of the news desk my favorite area in the news station was the Academic Challenge set.
My adult start was after my time at Kent State Trumbull campus and Cuyahoga Community College (Eastern Campus) in Ohio where I studied Journalism & Mass Communication where I was production assistant for MTV on the Real World, and Road Rules. I also have worked as a Production Assistant on the BET network for shows like College Hill, Bobby Jones Gospel, BET Uncut, and Video Soul. I also did crowd control for Jerry Springer before heading home to Ohio. Later I also attended the Ohio Center for Broadcasting to clean up on my skills and that experience I will for appreciate.
I started my own media company DcySive Media and a sports show called DcySive N Sports that launched me into a ton of media works including working for the Cavs, Browns, and Gladiators. I Have worked for WKYC Channel 3, Spectrum sports where I worked utility and as an end zone camera operator for high school football and scoreboard tech for high school basketball and hockey. I have worked for Tevor Noah and the Daily show and well I guess if you want to go in-depth on everything, I have done they can find me on LinkedIn or on my WordPress at MarieRKDillingham.wordpress.com. I am always looking for more things to do in the industry or wanting to contribute to.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has definitely not been smooth. I have dealt with body image, female, and minority issues in the industry. I have never been a small girl so opportunities that I have applied for were not giving because they were looking for a more toned-down female. There were also times when my name was called (Marie Kennedy) and when I responded, the reaction was different from their first excitement of talking to me over the phone which was always very disappointing and more than them telling me “We would like to see a male in this position, but we will keep your application on file.”
I may not have overcome in all of them but I definitely have worked through them all. I have no understanding of being stuck and not moving forward, it’s just not in my DNA.
So much that one of the companies that told me they preferred a male hired me years later for the same position I had applied for when I was turned down before.
Never EVER give up.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am the owner and operator of NoStaticRadio LLC, home of WHERE WE DON’T BRING NO STATIC BUT WE SHO NUFF BRING THE NOIZE!! and being your VOICE OF THE REVOLUTION. We broadcast live shows six days a week mainly from the afternoon until the evening and we air 24/7.
Will we are working on broadcast television networks, we specialize in worldwide broadcast radio with an emphasis on independent music artist.
We have a variety of shows from sports, relationships, politics, community activism, community resources, health and fitness, finance, religion, pop culture, current events, entertainment, music, and more.
We specialize in being a worldwide radio station and our platform for the independent artist, up and coming talent across the entertainment industry and our displaying of small businesses and owners from all over and our partnership with the COLORS platform on YouTube allows us to keep a growers base for independent music artistry.
What I am most proud of brand-wise? Honestly nothing yet, I feel, I know I have so much more to do and so much that I want people to hear and see from NSR that I don’t think, better yet I feel I am not at the peak of what I want for this platform and all of the great show host that do shows on the NSR network.
But to backtrack, I am extremely proud of the support that I have from my parents who are President and Vice President of C.U.D.R.A (The Coalition of Ultimate Drag Racers Association), and my husband Terrance, without them I would be doing stuff like still working in newsrooms getting upset about how they tell our stories or not…. the help and support that I have with them people only dream of.
Our mission at NoStaticRadio is to give our audience of listeners a very relatable listening experience, with innovation, imagination, creativity, and originality. We are dedicated to giving our listeners and viewers the highest quality experience, and that’s not all; we don’t just want our listeners and viewers to enjoy their experience we want them to walk away feeling special and appreciated knowing that their viewer and listening experience matters, their worth is our work and we appreciate their listening and viewership. We hope our listeners and viewers walk away learning more, laughing more, appreciating music more, understanding relationships more, understanding themselves more, especially loving more, hopefully understanding life better and the pursuit of whatever makes you happy. The NoStaticRadio experience should always be a FEEL GOOD experience and that is our mission.
This station is about telling our truths and our stories in and around our communities all over the world and not continuing to let people to us about us that don’t live how we live or have not gone through what we have gone through or seen what we have seen and to want true betterment for our societies.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love best about our city is that music and sports makes us happy, and how we celebrate it with love and some peace (because we can’t control everywhere).
What I dislike most is the lack of care in some areas and political greed that exist because it damages our communities.
