Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Resnick.
Hi Lisa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Like many, I had an experience that sparked an idea and became a dream, which later turned into a mission. After graduating from a local university with a degree in Political Science, I began working in politics, first on campaigns and then at a political marketing firm. I loved the work, but when I found myself unemployed and in need of paying rent, I took a temporary job at a commercial real estate development corporation. To my surprise, I loved the work there, too, and even became an independent real estate salesperson and broker. However, there were many aspects of these experiences that I didn’t like, but I continued doing them because it was all I knew.
Then, the pandemic happened, allowing me to pause and reflect on what I truly loved. Reading Dr. Claudia Beeny’s book, “What’s Your Shine?” helped me identify that my passion was connecting with people, developing them, and providing support where needed. I also saw how effortlessly men seemed to elevate each other and pick successors repeatedly through business interactions inside and outside their companies. This realization led me to create a community of women – Dandelion-Inc. – to foster the same mentality, providing a mechanism for women to support each other, build confidence and self-worth, and gain the recognition they have always deserved in the world. Through various pillars of emotional and intellectual growth, we aim to connect, develop, and support the women in our community.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Heck no. It’s challenging to convey my vision to others. I want to clarify that I didn’t invent this concept; there are similar companies globally, each with its unique touch, which I find inspiring. I enjoy exploring their worlds, as it gives me hope that my venture will also make a significant impact.
There’s a stigma attached to feminism, but my organization aims to empower women further and bridge the equity gap in society. I want us to be seen as advocates for equality, not as man-haters or causing men to tiptoe nervously. Embrace diversity, treat everyone as equals, and appreciate the richness it brings to all businesses.
Securing funding for startups is tough, and running a business, especially one you want to scale, requires finances. While having more funding would have accelerated my progress in implementing my ideas, I’ve adapted my strategy to achieve scalable growth without letting go of the ideas I wish to implement. I like to call this approach “risky conservatism.”
We’ve been impressed with Dandelion-Inc, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Dandelion-Inc, we understand that not everyone likes to dive right in, so we people to dip their toes in the water first. There are plenty of free resources available to get you started, including a weekly newsletter, a podcast called “The Seed,” where they can learn from other people’s stories, and a monthly virtual workshop to help them scale their business, regardless of their experience level.
When they’re ready to take the leap and become a member, we offer individual subscriptions available for only $45 per month, which is equivalent to the cost of one latte per week at Starbucks for a month or one glass of wine per week at a restaurant for a month (I relate to both comparisons). We also offer corporate subscriptions for $95 per month.
As a member, women gain access to even more workshops, resources, and live podcast recordings where they can ask our guests questions directly. Finally, we have added a new advantage. I am super excited to introduce to Dandelion-Inc Slack, a dedicated platform for communication, promotion, and Q&A. Our Slack Channel is an all-in-one platform designed for seamless communication, targeted promotions, and a safe space for any questions they may have. No question is too silly!
There are also some pretty amazing discounts offered by other women-owned businesses to our members.
We encourage everyone to take full advantage of Dandelion-Inc in all the ways possible!
Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Embarking on a new venture, especially in your mid-forties, can feel overwhelming. Despite my successful real estate career, I paused to reflect on the passing of time. I was driven to pursue genuine happiness in all aspects of my life and share my knowledge to assist others. This journey is not just for myself but for everyone seeking fulfillment.
Dedicated to this pursuit, I acknowledge the associated risks while following the principle of “risky conservatism.” Utilizing bootstrapping and securing microgrants to support impactful initiatives has eased some stress, yet I recognize the need for seed funding on the horizon to achieve the desired growth.
