Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Thompson.
Kelly, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have been pretty nomadic throughout my adult life- bouncing around the country, changing zip codes every couple of years, exploring different interests and figuring out what I was meant to do with my life.
One constant that followed me wherever I went was the chronic pain I had come to live with for roughly 30 years, from a childhood injury. When a friend suggested I try Yoga as a form of physical therapy, I figured it was worth a shot. After a month of steady, beginner-friendly Yoga, I was finally pain free. Thirty years of pain gone after just thirty days! I was hooked. Once I realized how amazingly effective a regular Yoga practice had been for me, I decided I had to share this with anyone who would listen. Everyone should be able to benefit from this as much as I had.
I quickly sought out a route to teach Yoga to others, eventually obtaining my 300 Hours Yoga Teacher Training Certification. I have since added an additional 200 Hours Certificate, and 60 Hours of Yin Yoga training.
I started small, teaching friends and family that were open to the practice. I have since launched a website and created a social media presence to open my teachings to the general public. I have been teaching professionally for 2 years next month. My classes are currently online only, via web calls. I offer private one on one sessions, tailored to each student’s unique needs. I absolutely love getting to know each student as an individual and watching them progress on their journeys as they get to know themselves and their own bodies on a deeper level. It is so rewarding to see the growth with my own eyes, and the joy when they realize how capable they truly are.
Four states, three time zones, and countless cities and towns later, I have finally found where I am supposed to be and what I am supposed to be doing with this life.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The teaching process has been wonderful. I love every minute of it.
It can be a struggle to get prospective students to take that first step though. My biggest hurdle has been getting people to take a chance on themselves, and to allow themselves to take time out of their day to pause and breathe. Taking that first class can feel scary, or maybe self indulgent.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Mosaic Tranquility Yoga?
First, I’ll explain the meaning behind the name. A solid Yoga practice incorporates different layers of teachings: poses, breath-work, connecting mind and body, etc. A mosaic is composed of diverse elements that come together to create a unified picture. By layering different elements into each successive class, each student comes away with a fuller picture of what their Yoga practice can become. This layered learning process guides you to your own state of tranquility for a more peaceful state of mind. We’re building a bigger picture together.
My Yoga journey has expanded to include spiritual, historical, and mental aspects of the Yogic path, along with the physical benefits, any of which can be woven into a session if it fits the needs of that student. I offer Restorative, Vinyasa, Hatha, and Yin styles of Yoga, depending on each student’s unique needs. I also offer the option of guided or contemplative meditations to open or close each session.
My classes are currently online only, via web calls in one on one sessions. Private lessons offer a more comfortable and judgement free atmosphere, and enable students to ask questions as they go so they can get more out of each session. Each class is reserved solely for that student, maintaining focus and presence. Students can also choose times to fit their schedule, rather than conforming to a group class schedule.
The first class is always free for new students.
