Hidden Gems: Meet Kathy Keeney of Boss Gal Beauty Bar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathy Keeney. 

Hi Kathy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
After working as a registered nurse for over a decade in the hospital setting, I decide to pursue my passion for the beauty industry. It started with learning Microblading and renting a small studio in Clintonville. After a while of offering that service, I decide to expand my skillset into cosmetic injectables. By this point, I was at a crossroads. I had a large clientele but in order to pursue injectables, I would need to either work for a physician in Medspa or plastic surgeon’s office or hire a physician and open my own medspa. I took a risk and it was the best thing I ever did! 

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The first year of business we faced many challenges. It was difficult to be a new entrepreneur, learning how to run a business as well as manage a team. I had to continuously pivot and make improvements daily. Creating policies and procedures as we went along to help streamline processes. Other challenges included finding the right team members and working through growing pains. When one service provider got busy enough, we would add another, growing the team gradually. Then in our second year, Covid struck. We were closed for 8 long weeks. Luckily when we reopened people wanted look and feel good and focus on self-care.

Boss Gal Beauty Bar is a sleek and contemporary take on the traditional medspa environment. We have an open concept facial bar where we use medical-grade skincare for a variety of facials. We offer cosmetic injectables, microneedling, and laser treatments. With 3 locations in Columbus Ohio, our mission is to provide result-driven treatments that help make everyone look their best but, more importantly, feel strong, beautiful, and confident, bringing out their inner Boss Gal.
