Hidden Gems: Meet Julie Novak of Hail Marys Westlake

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Novak.

Julie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My husband and I met working in the restaurant industry in Columbus. After spending our careers working for other people, we decided we wanted to be our own bosses. We opened our first restaurant, Hail Mary’s, in 2018 and plan to continue expanding in the future with our new concept Salty Mary’s, an oyster bar and tavern.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have been many obstacles, but we continue to persevere. COVID made our company stronger and more tight-knit in many ways.

As you know, we’re big fans of Hail Mary’s Westlake LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Our mission is to show, encourage, and ignite genuine hospitality in ourselves and others. We want to create a world without bad drinks, bad food, or bad service. We try to give back to the community that supports us. We sponsor and host multiple philanthropic events throughout the year including an annual charity golf outing, food drive, and a cornhole tournament.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck, not so much. Faith has driven our life and business.
