Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Boykins Jr
Hi Jason , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
The origins of the gym tour date back to 2021, a time when the world was still recovering from the impact of COVID-19. Like many others, I faced numerous setbacks—gym closures, disrupted routines, and the challenge of staying motivated in uncertain times. What initially started as a lighthearted joke among friends soon evolved into something much bigger—a movement fueled by passion, resilience, and a desire to push past limitations.
With my crew by my side, we set out to explore and review some of the best gyms in the area. Each visit became more than just a workout; it was an opportunity to experience different training atmospheres, meet like-minded individuals, and immerse ourselves in fitness communities that shared our same dedication. The tour quickly became a journey of self-improvement, not only physically but mentally and emotionally.
Beyond the reps and sets, the gym tour strengthened our mental well-being. Traveling together, stepping into new environments, and challenging ourselves in different training spaces created a powerful team dynamic—one that brought us closer and made us more accountable to our goals. The shared experiences, the energy of each gym, and the encouragement from those we met along the way fueled our drive and reinforced why we started in the first place.
Looking back, I’m incredibly grateful for everyone who has been part of this journey. From those who joined the workouts to the gym owners who welcomed us, and the people who supported us along the way—your influence has helped shape me into the best version of myself. The gym tour wasn’t just about visiting new places; it was about growth, discipline, and building a community that thrives on lifting each other up—inside and outside the gym.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being an entrepreneur and a college student is already a tough balancing act, but when you add the pressure of living independently, managing finances, and pursuing a bodybuilding and fitness career, the challenges can feel overwhelming.
Financial Struggles & Staying in School
One of the biggest hardships is the financial burden of staying in school while trying to support yourself. Tuition, books, rent, food, and everyday expenses add up quickly, and without steady income, the stress of making ends meet can become a daily struggle. Unlike traditional students who may have family support or financial aid, being independent means relying solely on yourself to figure it out.
Finding a job that fits your goals—one that provides enough income without sacrificing your training, competitions, or business development—is another major obstacle. Many jobs require long hours or unpredictable schedules that make it difficult to maintain a strict bodybuilding regimen, let alone travel for the gym tour.
Entrepreneurial Challenges & The Gym Tour
As an entrepreneur, you’re constantly working to grow your brand, create new opportunities, and fund your own ventures. The gym tour, which started as a passion project, requires money for travel, gym fees, accommodations, and content creation. Without consistent funding or sponsorships, it becomes harder to keep it going. The challenge is figuring out how to monetize the experience while staying true to the vision—whether through partnerships, brand collaborations, or offering services that align with the fitness industry.
On top of that, there’s the challenge of incorporating others into the vision. You want to build a community around fitness, but when you’re struggling financially, it’s tough to ask others to commit when they might also be facing their own challenges. Finding dedicated people who share your passion and are willing to invest time and effort without immediate financial returns is difficult but essential for long-term growth.
Balancing It All
Juggling school, work, business, training, and the gym tour is a constant test of time management and discipline. There are days when exhaustion kicks in, when you question whether it’s worth it, or when setbacks—financial or personal—make it seem impossible to move forward. But what keeps it alive is the bigger purpose: the love for fitness, the desire to inspire others, and the belief that through hard work and persistence, the right opportunities will come.
The key is finding creative ways to sustain your goals, whether that means:
✔️ Seeking sponsorships or collaborations to fund the gym tour
✔️ Finding a flexible job that supports your fitness career
✔️ Offering online coaching, training programs, or fitness content to generate income
✔️ Building a community that supports and contributes to the mission
Despite the struggles, the grind continues. Every challenge is part of the story, and overcoming them will only make the success even more meaningful. You’re not just building a business—you’re building a legacy.
