Today we’d like to introduce you to Georgie Murdock.
Georgie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Most little girls dream about their wedding. For me, not only did I dream about my own wedding, but I also dreamt about making other little girl’s fantasy become reality as a wedding planner. When watching movies like Father of the Bride and The Wedding Planner as a kid, I would obsess over the details of these weddings – the bouquet flowers, color of the bridesmaids’ dresses, you name it. I always knew it was something I was meant to do; however, the path wasn’t as straightforward as I thought it would be.
I graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in Hospitality Management. Upon graduating, I was eager to find a job within the wedding industry. With no luck, I pursued other interests in corporate America. But wedding planning still called my name…a little over a year ago, I got the opportunity to work at a brand-new wedding venue in Dayton, OH. It was a total dream come true for me! I became the one who got to obsess over all the details of a couple’s special day, like I had seen in the movies of my childhood. Though creating the perfect day for my clients is exciting, what I really love about it is understanding and connecting with couples to make their weddings unique to them. Creating this trust has allowed me to really excel as a wedding planner, gain a wide clientele and following and given me the confidence to branch out into my own personal business – Georgie Leigh Weddings.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely, getting here has not been a smooth road, but the journey has just started! I know it won’t always be smooth sailing; however, I am confident that my path to get here and my experience in the corporate world have prepared me for the challenges that await me. For now, I am excited to continue helping couples make beautiful memories, learning along the way, and building my brand.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the owner and creator of Georgie Leigh Weddings, a growing wedding planning business. My packages range from full planning to partial planning and month of coordination – more details on my site. I offer a hands-on approach that allows couples to navigate this process with minimal stress with services including sourcing, budgeting, logistics depending on their needs.
My passion is people. Each couple is different, meaning their needs, styles, preferences and therefore weddings are going to vary. I approach the wedding planning process with this center of mind. A wedding is a major milestone, and I am the person in charge of making sure it goes smoothly. I want to connect with all of my clients to best understand them, make them feel heard and establish trust. All of this is crucial to making their special day truly representative of them as a couple (and more importantly bringing to life a little girl’s vision).
Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I believe risk-taking is a necessity! Without risks, we are not growing and evolving into the peoplewe are meant to be. For me, not taking risks means I wouldn’t be having this conversation — I wouldn’t be a wedding planning.
It is so easy to let yourself get in the way of your dreams. Taking the first step is the hardest: it feels vulnerable and scary. When starting out my business, I had no clue what I was doing, what it would present, and if I’d succeed. What I can say is it has brought me tremendous joy. Taking the leap to follow my passions has been worth every risk. My thought is, “If it brings you happiness, why not go after it?”
