Today we’d like to introduce you to Danny Herold.
Hi Danny, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share Sonder’s story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
The meaning of Sonder is the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own, and we use this as the story of Sonder as well. We believe that every person and beer has a story. We’ve been open 3 years now, and our focus of the first three years has been on the quality and consistency of our beer, being a responsible company by being as environmentally conscious as possible, we do everything with passion, and we give back to our community as much as we can.
You can find Sonder beer in the Greater Cincinnati area, Dayton, Northern Kentucky, and Columbus. We’ll be expanding in the coming years as well. We offer core and seasonal beers along with specialty cans and bottles ranging from fruited sours to barrel aged stouts and everything in between. Since being open our beer has won awards from Great American Beer Festival, US Open, and The Ohio Cup
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons Sonder has learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been a successful three years for Sonder, but having more than half of your operating life being during a global pandemic has made things harder at times. We prioritized the safety of our team members and customers through out all of it, and took pride in following the mandates and guidelines to ensure we were doing our part in keeping the community safe while still being able to operate as a start up brewery.
We’ll look back on this time as a chapter in Sonder’s story where we came together to get through a tough time, and we took the lessons from this chapter to grow and learn. It wasn’t easy, but we’ll be a better company because of the camaraderie built during the pandemic
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At Sonder we take pride in our story telling. Our whole brand is that every person and beer is Uniquely Crafted, and this means that every beer name has a story behind it and we tell the stories of our team members as well. The stories behind beer names are anything from family names, to inside jokes, to funny instances, and everything in between. We tell these stories through various media platforms like our website and social media, but something unique to us is that we host and produce a weekly podcast where we tell the stories of the beer and people at Sonder. The Sonder Stories podcast is where hosts Justin and Danny sit down with team members, family, friends, and industry members to tell a story and build a deeper connection with our consumers
Can you share something surprising about Sonder?
A large part of our team did not grow up in Cincinnati, but we love the city so much and we all call it home now. We take pride in brewing Uniquely Crafted beer in Mason Ohio, and we wouldn’t want home base to be anywhere else!
