Today we’d like to introduce you to Dani Sage.
Hi Dani, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
After over a decade in the beauty industry, I started realizing that the individuals on the other side of the table were craving something more than just manicured nails and small talk. They needed more than pampering; they needed to be supported. I left the salon I had managed for nine years to pursue a more holistic way to indulge my clients.
That’s when the Good Vibes Hive was born! Five years ago, I combined my love for the physical indulgence of the beauty industry with my passion for the metaphysical world of spirituality. At first, I started with just offering tarot readings in a small office space with a single shelf of retail, but as the demand for my services grew, I expanded my offerings into Human Design Chart readings, educational workshops, and private events. This past January I realized I had outgrown my space and moved into a much one larger with even more space for retail!
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Every business owner has their struggles, but the one that stands out the most to me was having a statewide mandate to shut down in-person services for ten weeks in 2020 when the pandemic started. At the time, there was no indication of how long businesses would need to be closed, so not being able to plan for the future while also losing my ability to make money was incredibly hard. However, with all of my extra free time, I was able to pivot quickly to offer virtual readings and set up an online retail site! My clients were so amazing during this time, and in hindsight, it could have been a lot more difficult.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I started the Good Vibes Hive because I am passionate about demystifying the metaphysical world and making the tools and practices of spirituality accessible and fun for the masses! Things like crystals, tarot cards, and Human Design can feel intimidating and overwhelming when you first start getting into them, but they don’t have to be! It’s also very important to me to respect and honor sacred practices that are not my own. Tools like white sage that are commonly found in other metaphysical shops are not offered at my shop because the use of it is considered a “closed practice” in many Indigenous cultures. Not only that, white sage is being over-harvested, oftentimes by people whose labor is being exploited and is at risk of being endangered. I encourage my clients to seek out their own environmentally and socially conscious tools, and I love educating people when they come into the shop!
How do you define success?
As a business owner, I feel successful when I know I’m making a larger impact in my community. On an individual level, that looks like providing my tarot and Human Design clients with the clarity and support to make positive changes in their own lives, like knowing it’s time to leave a toxic job or relationship or ask for more out of life! On a bigger scale, that looks like being able to give back to my community with my time and resources!
