Today we’d like to introduce you to Cynthia Wilson. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Cynthia Wilson (aka Cynthysis) is from Chillicothe, OH. She is the youngest of three children. Her childhood centered largely around church, school, choir, band, and orchestra. She developed a love for music at a young age and started playing the piano at age 6.
She briefly went to Capital University majoring in Music Technology then Social Work. She moved to Nashville, TN receiving her Associates Degree in Digital Audio Production from The International Academy of Design and Technology. Later, she received her Bachelor’s of Science Degree from Devry Columbus, OH majoring in Business Communications.
She has also lived in Philadelphia, PA, but would ultimately end up back here in Columbus years later. Her first company was New Soul Management. She envisioned bringing small business owners together all while providing platforms for up and rising entertainers. Three years ago, a friend and her started a podcast that would evolve into a business called All About Life, LLC. The podcast is now called Notez.
All Notez is All About Life’s social community, passionate in connecting creative artists and independent businesses with diverse audiences, through meetups and vendor events. We also create awareness t-shirts, produce music, and books.
She is a Kymz Oils Scent Specialist. Kymz Oils is a black owned business owned by Leon Chambers specializing in roll on body oils.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It will always be a fun challenge when you are running a small business. I’m not yet at a level where I own my own building, so most of my work is done from home. A factory might have 100 employees to fulfill orders. I’m just one person. The preparation has to be thought out differently.
When hosting events, I’m using my own money to book venues. Other companies are using company funds and sponsorships. So, although it is fun and the ultimate end goal is to connect with people and expand business, sometimes it can be exhausting.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Kymz Oils is a black-owned business owned by Leon Chambers. We have a variety of scents for men and women, ranging from sweet to bold notes. Kymz Oils last all day long and are a great wear for workdays, workouts, and special occasions. We have customers all around the world. All of our scents tell a story that is applicable to the wearer’s experience. Some stories are motivational with scents such as: Blessed, Focus, Consistency, Boss Lady, Boss Talk, Mature. Some stories are locations like: Vegas Nights or College Days, Golden Sand. Other scents are character based like: Playmaker, Baby Boy, I’m Her. There are so many options, even more than this.
I simply provide clients with a lifestyle-enhancing product that just happens to be a body oil. I do it based on a flexible schedule, and I get to connect with diverse audiences every week.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love The Blu Note, Budd Dairy Food Hall, CJs Soul Food, Marlows Cheesesteak, Modern Southern Table, Hayden Falls, The Green Room 97, First Church of God, The Kee, Other World, High Life Studios, Vibe Venue, Scioto Mile.
I do not like that Columbus does not have a black owned mall, black owned large entertainment center like Shadowbox, and lacks in urban owned businesses in suburban areas. But if it takes small, owned businesses such as mine to change this, I’m willing to be part of the change.
