Today we’d like to introduce you to Christine Sadler
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My physical therapy career began working in the hospital. I was fortunate in working in a large department with such a variety of types of therapists and patients that I grew as a clinician and felt confident expanding my skills. Over the course of a year there, I recognized that physical therapy was offered to every unit in the hospital with the exception of maternity care. It was hard to understand why I could go to a patient after abdominal surgery and teach them how to recover, but an entire population of patients after abdominal surgery were just … being sent home. And with an infant, no less!
This began the journey of creating a presence and working with the postpartum, high risk, and labor and delivery units in the hospital. We created a team of people and taught new parents how to recover from giving birth, and where to follow up with physical therapy in the community.
As time went on, we recognized that there were often patients who wouldn’t be able to actually get to an outpatient appointment — due to transportation, childcare, physical mobility limitations among other reasons. Juniper Obstetric PT was created for that group of people who need of prefer to have care in their home. We are located East of Central Ohio and have been able to treat people without other access to this type of care.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road to where we are as a company now was smooth in that we are doing what we love and how we love to do it. The struggles during the last decade have been largely around advocacy and awareness to what pelvic floor physical therapy is and who benefits from it. It can be challenging to convince people that a new-to-them service is needed. Additionally, physical therapy school is dedicated to creating quality physical therapists; the business side of the profession isn’t a large component of the curriculum. We have had to rely on mentors and a lot of self-led learning on best business practices.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Juniper Obstetric Physical Therapy and Wellness?
We are a private, self-pay physical therapy practice specializing in obstetric and pelvic floor care. We are one of few practices on the East side of the state, and the only that offers in-home visits. We work with any aged individual experiencing the large variety of pelvic floor dysfunctions – leaking urine, pelvic pain, bowel issues, pregnancy, preparation for birth, postpartum recovery, post-operative prehab and rehab, intimacy issues or pressure/bulging sensations.
We have been very proud at Juniper to offer these services to an area that previously did not have this care as an option – many of the clinics in the area function on long wait lists. It is such a pleasure to work with people in their homes where they are most comfortable. It allows us as clinicians to individualize care in a different way than you receive in a clinic. We offer one on one physical therapy care, but have also developed group birth preparation courses, and put on many pop-up community workshops which allow people to meet us and experience what we have to offer without any pressure.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We have an online scheduling system, which includes the option of a free screening call in addition to evaluation and follow up treatment options. The schedule can be found on our website. We love and welcome collaboration! We are available by email and phone, as well as social media platforms. Any method mentioned can get you in contact with our therapists to see how we may best serve you.
Our website offers information on our event calendar, which includes pop-ups and workshops, online courses or networking events we are attending.
