Hidden Gems: Meet Chelsea Alford of Montoniea’s Tea

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Alford.

Hi Chelsea, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Montoniea’s Teas was created in 2019 by me and my mom, Mary. Not only did we both enjoy tea, but we also shared the same middle name- Montoniea. In 2018 my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. We both made drastic changes to our lifestyles but one thing remained the same; our love for tea. We embarked on a journey finding natural teas that not only tasted good but also aided in helping them sleep, relax, reduce inflammation and so much more. For over a year, we worked to get the business off the ground. My mom passed away in 2020 after her fight with cancer and I continued with creating Montoniea’s Tea. To me, Montoniea’s Tea is more than a passion project it is a continuation of my mother’s legacy

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Starting a business is never easy. Over time I’ve had to find various ways to continue growing my business and getting more customers. I attend vendor events and use various marketing tools. I think the hardest thing is keeping a constant flow of customers coming and purchasing from my site.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Montoniea’s Tea?
Montoniea’s Tea is a loose-leaf natural tea business. When I created this business, I wanted teas that were different from what you can purchase in a store and that is exactly what you get with us. We Create teas that smell delicious and taste delicious. Along with fun and exciting flavors like ‘Peach Cobbler’, ‘Maple’ and a ‘Mint’ tea that has spearmint and peppermint with a tine of vanilla in it.

I am most proud of creating the business in itself and having my teas featured in a local cafe ‘Dee Felice Cafe’ in Covington Ky and an Ice Cream Shop in southern Kentucky ‘The Local Confectionary’. Having the opportunity to get my teas in those shops are amazing and I cannot wait to have my teas featured in other shops and bakeries.

Montoniea’s tea is constantly adding new flavors each season that customers will love. This summer we have a Rose Cherry tea that is perfect for the summer. It’s tasty cold and hot. Later this year we will have great flavors for the fall and winter months. We will also be expanding and offering Luxury Tea party services.

We also provide fun and catchy mugs that are seasonal and fun. We just finished Mother’s Day so we have mugs that are great for mom and the special women in your family. We stay in touch with what it happening in the community and finding creative ways to showcase that on or cups. Soon we will showcase a new collection that is artistic, that many people will love.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
I want to be able to bring new experiences to people and have them try something new they may not have thought about. I would like Montoniea’s Tea to be a well-known tea site that all people will find something they love.

Not only does tea taste good but it also can be used to help with relaxation and health and wellness. Tea can be cleaning and great for the body and soul.
