Hidden Gems: Meet Brice Klausing of Augusta Lawn Care Services of Van Wert Ohio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brice Klausing.

Hi Brice, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey in lawn care and landscaping started long before I ever thought of owning a business. When I was 14 years old, I began mowing lawns and helping my dad with landscaping jobs around Van Wert. I learned early what hard work looked like—especially during the winter. I’d work snowstorms overnight, then head straight to school, followed by basketball practice.

One memory that still feels like it happened yesterday was a small overnight snow event at the Van Wert Walmart parking lot. I was plowing through the night when a police officer—who knew my dad—pulled in and saw me out there working. He called my dad just to let him know school would be in session that day. My dad was shocked because he didn’t expect school to be open.

I rushed home, got changed, and headed straight to school. That day I had a full schedule: school, basketball practice, and then driver’s ed right afterward. By the time I got home, I was so exhausted I went straight to bed. I’m pretty sure I missed a homework assignment or two that night, but sleep won that battle.

Every summer, I helped my dad mow properties all over Van Wert County and took on all kinds of landscaping jobs to earn money and learn the trade. After I graduated high school, I continued to work for my dad for another two years. Eventually, he was ready to step away from the business world and take a job with less stress.

So on March 5, 2020, I took a leap and started my own lawn care and landscaping business. I began as a solo guy, going around town looking for work and trying to build a name for myself. Over the next few years, we grew steadily—first hiring one employee, then a second, and eventually expanding into the 15-person team we have today.

It’s been an honor to grow this company from just me to a team of 15 right here in the town where I was born and raised. I’m extremely grateful for every customer, every opportunity, and all the support from our community. It’s been a blessing, and I’m excited to continue growing, serving, and giving back to the hometown that believed in my small business from the very beginning.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. As a young guy running a growing business, I’ve had a lot to learn—and I’m still learning every single day. One of the biggest challenges has been stepping into the role of a leader. I work hard to be someone my team can rely on and someone my customers can trust.
There’s a lot of responsibility that comes with that, and I never want to let anyone down. Whether it’s delivering for a customer or supporting the people who work alongside me, I take it seriously. Along the way, I’ve made mistakes—every business owner does—but I try to learn from each one. Every experience pushes me to grow, improve, and build a company that people want to be part of.
My goal has always been to create a workplace where my team feels valued and to earn the trust of the Van Wert community. The road hasn’t been easy, but the lessons have been worth it, and they’ve helped shape the company into what it is today.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

We understand that homeowners and businesses appreciate responsiveness, and we make it a priority to keep our customers informed every step of the way. Beyond communication, we take tremendous pride in the quality of our work. Every job, big or small, matters to us.
What sets us apart is the amount of pride our entire team brings to each property. I live here in Van Wert, and one of my favorite things to do is drive around town with my wife and our baby boy, pointing out the lawns, landscapes, and projects our team has completed. It means something to improve and maintain the community you grew up in, and that feeling is shared across our crew.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the reputation we’ve built—one rooted in trust, hard work, and genuine care for the people we serve. We want readers to know that when you hire us, you’re supporting a local team that truly values this community and stands behind every service we offer.

What matters most to me, personally, is striving to be a great husband, father, brother, son, and friend. Those relationships are the foundation of who I am. Right alongside that is my commitment to being a strong, supportive leader for everyone who chooses to work here. The people on our team trust me to guide the company, and I take that responsibility seriously.
From a business standpoint, what matters most is building a company in my hometown that is truly known for its quality of work and its dedication to customer satisfaction. I want our customers to feel the same pride in their property that our team feels when we complete a job. That sense of pride—both in our craft and in our community—is what drives me every day.
