Hidden Gems: Meet Brian Quinter of Quint Creative Signs

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Brian Quinter.

Brian Quinter

Hi Brian, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I own and started Quint Creative Signs, a small local sign shop that specializes in one-of-a-kind three-dimensional signs. We also specialize and many other types of signs and vehicle lettering as well. A lot of our work can be seen just as you drive down the streets in our area.

Our 3D sign work has been featured in many trade publications and has won various sign design awards. Our latest magazine feature was in the January 2024 issue of Sign Builder Illustrator. This is an awesome achievement for a small shop.

I was named to the Advisory Board for the trade publication Sign Builder Illustrated. This is such a huge honor for me. There is no school or college to learn how to make signs and in my early years I used trade publications to learn what others are doing and now I’m involved in one of those magazines that has help so many signs makers through the years.

What’s new at our shop? We recently added a new printer that is capable of does white ink. This has been something I’ve wanted for a long time. Be on the lookout for some cool things we are doing with it. We been using it a little on all types of our work.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There are always struggles in a small business, but in a sign shop, one of our biggest challenges is sign code. A lot of cities have adopted new sign codes in recent years, and they are often more restrictive. We end up having to be the “Bad Guy” by informing clients what they can and can’t do when it comes to the sign due to the city’s code. Most new businesses don’t research sign code when they look into a new location or start a business.

The other challenge are cities that have an area where the sign has to go through a design review process. This delays getting permits, and often, the basis of the review is a matter of opinion of people on these boards. It’s frustrating to me, owning a sign shop that has won sign design awards having to defend a design for our clients.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.

Luck? I started my business as a part-time gig making decals. On my 30th birthday, I was laid off from my part-time job. I took it as a birthday gift. This year marks 20 years full-time.
