Today we’d like to introduce you to Bill Schuller.
Hi Bill, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Being a DJ was not my first choice or even in my top 5 list of careers. I graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Tellecomunications. I graduated with a non-specific degree I didn’t know what to do with because I wanted to get into advertising, and I had sales skills through working retail at a place called ABC Warehouse.
While working again in retail, I started hanging out with a DJ friend (Tommy) I met from working. I would hang out and watch him, DJ, at different locations. He invited me to his house for a private party and while we were there, he had to run out for something. He asked if I could play music (DJ) while he was out. So, I started picking CDs and playing music for his friends & family. They loved the songs I picked, and I had fun being a part of making it a fun night for everyone. From this point, I was really inspired & interested in getting into being a DJ. I shadowed a couple DJs and got pointers from others.
I would say 3 things helped get us as busy as we are today, networking with other wedding vendors even DJs, marketing through multiple sites, and word of mouth from many of our amazing past clients.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The first struggle was getting our name out there so we were trusted enough to be considered. While on our journey I personally struggled with being in front of a large group of people on the microphone. I would go to many weddings with my stomach upset & anxious.
However, I was passionate about creating the special moments for whoever I was entertaining and pushed past my fears & anxiety because I love what I do and the services I provide.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are a DJ service based out of the Dayton area but will travel up to 2hrs away. Whenever we say we DJ people always assume or think we just play music, but it’s more than that. The DJ is 1 of the most important aspects of the wedding. We not only play music but also coordinate with other vendors all the events of the evening, announce everything, control the flow of the events, release tables for dinner, and when we do get into the dance portion of the evening everything is about picking the right songs at the right moments.
In addition, we offer a photo booth, and many lighting options (up-lights, monogram, & dance lights). We do an amazing display with our up-lights. We can transform a room and can really make it pop and look awesome for our clients. One thing that sets us apart is our monogram. There is a lot of creativity that goes into making a motion monogram with projection displaying our brides & grooms names on a wall or dance floor. We’ve done some really fun themes such as a Harry Potter, Marvel, Disney, and Lord of the Rings monograms using video from the movies.
I would love your readers to know that we are so passionate about the services we offer that we go the extra mile or 10 to ensure the wedding or event is amazing. Our goal is to create the wedding or event that our clients envision.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory would be spending time with my friends playing video games & basketball.
