Hidden Gems: Meet Beth Price of Hand in Hand Music Therapy Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beth Price.

Hi Beth, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been involved with music since I was three years old, when I started my first piano lessons. I later studied harp and continued through college, ultimately graduating with a B.S. in Harp Performance. A few years later, I learned about music therapy and found that the idea of using music clinically to help others deeply resonated with me. I pursued a master’s equivalency degree in music therapy shortly after. Fast forward ten years later, and I now operate a private practice music therapy studio: Hand in Hand Music Therapy Services in Chardon, OH. Being able to provide music therapy services, adapted music lessons, group music classes and music social groups, and more for the community has been an incredible experience and privilege. My niche is working with school-aged children, early childhood and early intervention, and children with varying disabilities, but I work with all ages. I find great fulfillment in watching the joy that music brings to so many hearts and watching how much growth and success can be achieved through music.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been an unexpected road! When I started my music therapy career journey, I did not immediately see myself running my own practice. Long story short, the opportunity to start my own practice came through changes occurring at my previous job that no longer aligned with my personal values and goals. I found myself at a crossroads that ultimately led to taking a step into the unknown of starting a private practice. It has been an intense learning curve to start a business from scratch, but I have been pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoy it. It has been empowering to learn how much I am capable of, and inspires me to find out how much more I am capable of. One of the biggest challenges has been starting and operating the business primarily on my own. I wear a lot of hats, and it can be hard to switch between all of the roles and maintain a quality of work I can be proud of. I am currently in the process of learning how to expand my team and share some of the hats so that I can continue to focus on what I love and do best.

Hand in Hand Music Therapy Services provides individualized music therapy, adapted music lessons, and group classes in Hand in Hand Music Therapy is a welcoming place for people of all ages and abilities to find joy, connection, and growth through the healing power of music. We primarily specialize in individual and group music therapy services, which use music as the clinical approach to address nonmusical goals such as communication, social and emotional skills, physical goals, cognitive goals, and so much more. As a growing clinic in the Chardon, OH area, we are always looking to meet the needs of families in the area and are open to adding new programming to meeting those needs. One of our most popular group services is our “Little Jammers” early childhood classes, which serve ages 0-4 with a caregiver. Music is an incredibly effective learning tool for teaching academics, social skills, structure, and encouraging exploration. We strive to be a welcoming clinic that seeks to come alongside each person who walks through our doors and meet them where they are, walking “hand in hand” through each step together.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Music therapy is a growing field and continues to grow each year. Music therapy is an evidence-based treatment provided by board-certified music therapists that can impact so many elements of life for as short or long amount of time as needed. Music is appropriate for all ages and supports the brain and body through all phases of life. Music is unifying and accessible to all, and I see the clinical application of music and the field of board-certified music therapy continuing to grow in the coming years.
