Today we’d like to introduce you to Ariell and Johnny Meyers.
Hi Ariell, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I met my husband in 2011, we were both restaurant employees. Because of his hard work and dedication, my husband was chosen to travel around the United States helping to open this restaurant in other cities. When things became more serious between us, we realized that this wasn’t going to be a realistic long-term job for someone who wanted a wife and kids. In 2012, my husband decided to take an installations job from a fence company in Cleveland. He ran installations crews; he ran the vinyl fabrication shop, he did sales, and so much more. He worked tirelessly for the next 6 years to master his craft. In 2018 he started subcontracting, working more than 70 hours a week most weeks. When we realized what a great success he was having out on his own, we decided to take the leap into opening our own, more local, fence company. So, in 2018 we applied for the LLC and started taking on jobs as Meyers Fence Company. The logistics of zoning permit applications, customer service, creating contracts and material orders were something we learned, created, and improved on along the way. To help with the finances and backend of the business, in 2019, I decided to go back to school at Kent State University to obtain my bachelor’s in accounting, which I completed back in December 2022. Since opening in 2018, we have grown exponentially. We now have a full-time salesman and run 3 installations crews. We install about 3 jobs a day and roughly 5 jobs-6 jobs a week.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a business owner is never a smooth road. Juggling two young children and a growing business has its ups and downs. We make it through the hard times by taking a step back and looking at the bigger picture. Small problems can sometimes feel bigger than they really are. We are installing fence, not doing heart surgery; mistakes happen, it’s all about how you handle them, and we try our best to handle them with as much patience and understanding as possible.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Meyers Fence Company?
We are a commercial and residential fence company. Daily, we take incoming calls and emails; schedule leads, send our salesman on free estimates, sign contracts, collect deposits, apply for zoning permits, order material, install jobs, follow up with customers, and collect final payment. We install aluminium, vinyl, wood, and chain link fences. I think the #1 thing that sets us apart from other companies is that we strive to treat our employees and customers as good as we possibly can. We are also bonded, insured, and registered in these cities which gives our customers an added layer of protection when choosing our company. We are most proud of the number of sponsorships and other ways we have been able to give back to the community. We have been able to sponsor local golf outings and charity events, youth horse show participants, youth baseball, youth softball, youth t-ball, The Big Red Foundation, and Kent Co-Ed Softball, to name a few.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
The successes we have seen are a direct reflection of the great leadership and dedication Johnny has to this business and his employees, but the only people who deserve true credit for our successes are our customers. They continue to show support long after the installation is done via word of mouth and posts on social media. We could not be nearly as successful as we have been without the amazing support of our past and present customers.
