Hidden Gems: Meet Amy Bauman of Your Development Resource

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Bauman.

Hi Amy, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My undergraduate degree is in Education. I always knew I was meant to be a teacher, but after three years of classroom teaching, I realized it wasn’t exactly what I thought it was going to be. I tried a couple of office jobs and did well, but found myself in a toxic work environment, not conducive to having a great personal life. I was fortunate to become a stay-at-home mom when my oldest son (then only son) was 10 mos. old.

After having my second son, I finally admitted to myself that, while I loved being the boys’ mom, I was missing something. I started watching tv shows and reading books about women who were managing motherhood AND business. (I think a lot of moms deal with this mom guilt. We think “I love being a mom BUT…” when we should be thinking “I love being a mom AND…”) I got really interested in personal and professional development and decided to pursue that AND be a loving mom.

I took a corporate job when my older two boys were in elementary and preschool. (I now have three boys.) Within that corporate job, I became the co-chair of the company’s professional development organization for women and LOVED it. I was using my teaching skills in a different capacity…business.

I decided to get a graduate degree in business, so I enrolled in a Business Psychology program. After one class, I was hooked and started developing my own business, Your Development Resource, to help others with their personal and professional development.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has been neither a smooth nor rough road; just a slower road than I would like!

Being an entrepreneur is a lot of trial and error. Starting off, I felt like I should be able to figure everything out myself…website, marketing plan, growth strategy, etc. I still feel like I can figure everything out, but it makes more sense to work in my “zone of genius” and get help with the parts of the business that are not in my wheelhouse.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Your Development Resource?
When I was a school teacher, I loved pulling the resources together for the lessons. After teaching, when I was trying to determine my purpose, I would say, “I just want to be a resource to others.” So, when it came time to name my personal and professional development business, “Your Development Resource” was the perfect name.

After working with clients for over two years, I can say that my “sweet spots” are fostering growth mindset and increasing goal achievement. My clients come to me seeking help with a variety of pain points, such as time management, getting organized, feeling overwhelmed, but most every pain point is solved by improving mindset and following my goal achievement strategies.

I am often complimented for my ability to understand my clients and communicate in a way that makes sense to them. I attribute that to my teaching skills and experience. Seeing your students/clients have their “aha moments” is the most rewarding outcome for a teacher. Their success is my success; it really means a lot to me.

There are several ways that clients can work with me. I offer online and in-person private coaching packages, group coaching programs, workshops, and even groups/communities dedicated to women in business.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Favorite childhood memory? So many! Like most kids, I loved laughing and hanging out with my good friends. That could be anything from going to the pool in the Summer, jumping in leaves in the Fall, or making snow forts in the Winter. I was also a competition dancer, so attending overnight competitions and conventions with my dance studio was always a great time.
