Today we’d like to introduce you to Tina Chamoun.
Hi Tina, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I launched Terranean Herbs and Spices in the USA as an opportunity to teach others about za’atar, a staple in all Middle Eastern homes, to provide work and business opportunities for Lebanon, and to fill a void in the American marketplace for this traditional Levantine herb, by creating real authentic, filler-free za’atar products. When I returned from Lebanon in 2019, I noticed that most Middle Eastern staples like the wild thyme blend, za’atar, were not available at Ohio grocery stores. My goal was to provide high quality, authentic za’atar, similar to what I grew up enjoying in Lebanon, as a pre-mixed olive oil blend and convenient shaker jar to fit the American grocery market, and as flavorful za’atar twice-baked pita chips, our favorite way to introduce za’atar to friends for their first time!
I launched TerraneanHerbs.com in December of 2019, and began selling products local grocery stores in 2020!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Launching a business during COVID definitely had its challenges, from sourcing alternate packaging materials due to supply chain issues, to grocery buyers working on sourcing essentials vs. bringing on new products! I’m also looking forward to the opportunity to start in-store tastings and samplings for my products since we haven’t had the chance yet due to ongoing safety measures.

I am so thankful for my friends and mentors that I am able to turn to for advice and guidance with my business, and equally thankful for everyone who purchased my products, wrote a review, recommended them to a friend, or even liked a social media post!
All these different shows of support make running a small business very rewarding to me. I am proud of where we are today, thanks to this incredible support, and hope that I can continue grow and expand my brand here so that I can provide more work and business opportunities for Lebanese growers and harvesters.
