During my upbringing, I was fortunate to be raised by two resourceful individuals I affectionately called “scrapers.” These resilient parents of mine tirelessly worked for themselves, taking on various odd jobs to ensure our ends met, especially during challenging times. Among the cherished memories of my childhood, one stands out vividly – those evenings spent with my parents, embarking on our “trashing” adventures. Together, we would scour the streets, picking up discarded washing machines and dryers left roadside by others. Witnessing their ability to revive these discarded appliances and resell them, I couldn’t help but be enamored by the sheer brilliance of it all.
As time progressed and I embarked on my own journey, I established a digital marketing firm called PlumBum Content Creation. Drawing inspiration from the invaluable lessons my parents imparted, I integrated their “scraper” mentality into my own work ethic. Just as they taught me, I seek out the hidden potential within processes and products, tirelessly exploring possibilities to assist my clients in growing their businesses. Moreover, I have adopted a steadfast determination in the face of adversity, utilizing challenges as stepping stones for personal growth and development.
Through the resilience instilled in me by my parents, I have honed a unique approach to my work, allowing me to uncover untapped opportunities, craft innovative strategies, and deliver unparalleled results. My journey as an entrepreneur is not merely a testament to their teachings but a living tribute to the unwavering spirit of the “scrapers” who shaped my path.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a business owner with Type 1 diabetes presents a daily uphill battle, where struggles become an integral part of my journey. Whether it’s the disruptive beeping of my Continuous Glucose Monitor during important meetings or the sudden drop in my sugar levels during crucial sales calls, I have encountered numerous challenges while navigating the entrepreneurial world with a disability.
The responsibilities that come with owning a business are already demanding in their own right. However, for individuals like me, there exists an additional layer of complexity—a constant internal struggle that manifests both mentally and physically. Balancing the demands of running a business while prioritizing my health can be an arduous task, particularly for someone inherently driven and tenacious.
There are instances when my unwavering determination and unyielding spirit push me forward, desiring to forge ahead despite the obstacles. However, my body often serves as a stark reminder that it has its own limits, compelling me to take a step back and prioritize rest and self-care.
The confluence of ambition and physical well-being can be a challenging tightrope to walk. As someone with an innate drive to achieve and surpass goals, it can be difficult to accept that my physical health sometimes necessitates a temporary pause. However, this forced respite ultimately enables me to replenish my energy, allowing for a more sustainable and resilient approach to my entrepreneurial endeavors.
As I continue to face the unique trials and tribulations of running a business with Type 1 diabetes, I strive to embrace these challenges as opportunities for growth and self-discovery. Each hurdle conquered strengthens my resolve, solidifying my commitment to not only succeed in business but also prioritize the well-being of both mind and body along the way. By acknowledging and navigating these intricate battles within myself, I am building a foundation that supports both my personal and professional aspirations.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The resilience that resides within me is a testament to the adversity I have faced throughout my life. My journey has been marked by countless challenges, but with unwavering determination and my faith in God, I have emerged stronger on the other side. Despite the ongoing struggles posed by PTSD and diabetes, I persevere, maintaining unwavering focus on achieving my goals.
At the tender age of 12, I found myself thrust into a world of turmoil as my parents embarked on a tumultuous and painful divorce. To compound matters, my father succumbed to addiction, leaving our home behind. The foreclosure of our childhood home further added to the weight on my young shoulders.
During my teenage years, I became a mother, confronting the immense responsibility and sacrifices that came with it. Tragically, in 2015, I lost my daughter’s father to a senseless act of violence, shattering my world once again. The year 2022 brought another devastating blow as my stepdaughter’s mother was tragically taken from us.
Throughout my journey, I have grappled with the effects of PTSD, seeking treatment in 2017 to navigate its impact on my life. However, the challenges did not stop there. In 2021, I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, introducing a new layer of complexity to my daily existence.
Yet, in the face of these daunting circumstances, I stand firm, propelled by an unyielding spirit. I draw strength from my unwavering faith and the unwavering belief that I am capable of transcending the challenges that come my way. Each obstacle becomes an opportunity for growth, and I remain committed to forging ahead, refusing to let circumstances define my potential.
As an entrepreneur, I am acutely aware that the path ahead may still be arduous. However, armed with the lessons of the past and an unrelenting drive, I confront each day with purpose and determination. I carry the scars of my past, but they serve as a reminder of my resilience and the indomitable spirit that fuels my journey.
