Tami, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The vision for Cerenity Integrative MedSpa happened in 2014 when my best friend Karen was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer. Supporting her through her difficult times I couldn’t understand how chemotherapy a poison going into the body to kill a deadly disease made sense. I watched her, treatment after treatment battle with the side effects of the chemotherapy. That was the turning point for me to find a better way to help others going through the same challenges of side effects. I combine my education with personal experience as a caregiver for my family and loved ones who have suffered from cancer, diabetes, stroke, fibromyalgia, and lupus. Their suffering drove me to find a better way forward.
Almost everything comes down to choices. I took a leap of faith and after 10 years I resigned from the stresses of my Senior Executive Management position in Corporate America with a Fortune 500 company to follow my passion and live a more authentic life and pursue a healthier way of life. I also have 8 years of experience as a Regional Director of Business Development and Executive Director in the senior citizen community. I went back to school to obtain my Holistic Health Advisor, Aromatherapy Practitioner & Educator license as well as Holistic Options for Cancer Prevention & Care, Wellness Coaching, and Health and Nutrition certifications.
I spent five years researching modalities and performing case studies to help cancer patients, and people with chronic pain such as RA, Fibromyalgia, and Lupus. I enjoy creating amazing wellness experiences that improve people’s lives and embrace the philosophy that if you do what you love, surround yourself with joyful optimistic people, exercise, practice healthy eating habits, and incorporate self-care into your life, it reflects in a healthy and youthful feeling that increases with each passing year. I believe that food is not the only contributor that affects our health, but that all factors present in our daily lives play a significant role. Healthy relationships, a fulfilling career, regular physical activity, and spiritual awareness are essential forms of nourishment that also afford us a well-balanced holistic lifestyle.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Opening on the tail end of COVID has been challenging because people are still hesitant. We safe-proofed our medical spa by painting it with microbicidal paint that kills greater than 99.9% of Staph, MRSA, E. The air filtration system kills bacteria and viruses to create a healthier space. When we started the business plan and applied for a loan the price of the construction and materials were significantly at lower cost. Once we were ready to hit the ground running, the price of everything had increased by 25% and the inflation caused us not to be able to offer all the services we intended.
Getting contractors to show up was a challenge and delayed the opening by 4 months. We had a soft opening in February which is good because we realized the operating system we had wasn’t working with our business model and had to make a large investment to change that out. I am happy to report that our Grand Opening in June 2022 was a huge success and every month we are growing. Getting the business off the ground and running has had its obstacles, but we are headed in the right direction and as we continue to grow we will be adding on the services we had to hold off on.

People view success in many ways. Some of the business is profitable, others if they are making a lot of money and others view it by the house they live in, the car they drive, and the clothes they wear. Don’t get me wrong, if the business isn’t profitable, it’s not going to be around for very long, but look at what makes the business successful.
