Today we’d like to introduce you to Susan Gibson.
Hi Susan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Around the time my oldest son was getting ready to graduate from high school, I started to panic. You see, I knew on my wedding night that I had made a mistake, but shortly thereafter my mother died and I felt stuck. My parents always said that when you make your bed you have to lay in it. So here I was 22 years later and my boys were the two people I got and gave all my love to. What would I have left when they were gone?
I began looking at my life and trying to figure out how I got to this point. I had suffered on and off with depression, anxiety, and panic attacks, and was numbing myself with wine. I didn’t like what I saw! I began reading a book called Living the Truth, by Keith Ablow. As I read and did the exercises, I realized my pain went back to sexual assaults/trauma in my past that I buried. After getting as far as I could with the book, I wondered what my next step was. My friend Kristen suggested I see her friend who was an energy healer. I didn’t know what that was or if I believed in it, but I was willing to try anything at that point. I had a profound experience at that first healing. She recommended a therapist who actually was a founder of Women Helping Women, a non-profit organization in Cincinnati that helps victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. In fact, WHW advocated for me when I was raped at 18 as a freshman at the University of Cincinnati.
My healing accelerated at an exponential rate. It wasn’t long before I realized that I wanted to help others heal as well. I went to the only 4-year energy school that offers a B.S., the Barbara Brennan School of Healing. With more than 15,000 hours of training, and then additional training in other modalities (Healing Touch, Reiki, Emotion Code, Life Coaching, Crystals, Essential Oils), I customize and personalize healing work for each individual client with what they want to shift in their life.
My business is Your Path to Peace because it is a journey inside to find authentic peace. It doesn’t happen overnight but it can happen! My mission is to help women empower themselves, to let go of what doesn’t serve them, and find their authentic voice in this world. When women heal, it affects not only them but their families as well. In this way, we can change the world.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There were some struggles for sure. My family questioned whether I was in a cult because they didn’t understand my modality. I ended up getting divorced. I had been a stay-at-home mom and I had a custom window treatment business from my home, but I had never financially supported myself in my life! When I started my business, I thought people would just find me–they didn’t! I didn’t know how to market or even understand who I wanted to serve. All of this has solidified as I took additional business trainings and worked. I originally opened in Hyde Park but moved my business back to my home after my youngest son moved out. Last April I was hearing that it was time to move into a new space. I set my intention for the right place to fall into my lap and it did. I moved into the Zen Den Healing Studio and have been there since. And that was just in time because my husband became ill and had 4 brain surgeries last year–there was no way I could have run my business from home with him there all the time recuperating.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Your Path To Peace?
I help women get to the root cause of their dis-ease. That could be something emotion, physical, or spiritual. In western cultural we separate the emotional from the physical and have doctors who specialize in each. But in truth the two cannot be separated. I believe your soul speaks to you through your body if you aren’t able to listen directly in the form of dissease. It’s your soul saying, “I’m not messing around! It’s time you look at this!” Whereas the medical community will slap a diagnosis on it and give you a pill, I work with my client to find out why it’s happening at this time and help them heal it themselves. By looking at what’s happening energetically, it takes away any judgments the client might have allows them to have compassion for themselves.
Many of my clients come to me because of anxiety or depression, which is caused by overwhelming feelings that are just too much. I help them to first find safety within themselves as we work on finding what the anxiety or depression stems from. The root cause is usually something we are avoiding–this can be anything from difficult relationships, past situations we buried, uncomfortable feelings, or more. By giving them space, allowing them to surface and be seen, they lose their power and we can move on. I call this giving them a seat at the table.
Although I call myself an intuitive energy healer, I don’t actually do the healing, my client does. I facilitate it by raising my vibration and the client’s energy entrains or resonates to that level. Some people think energy healing is woo-woo, but it’s actually scientific! We all have energy. We have a nervous system. Emotions have energy, thoughts have energy, actions have energy. In a healing session there is resonance–when two vibrating bodies are together, they want to resonate at the same frequency. This is how healing happens.
I expect my client to be active participants in the healing process. There is always growth work at the end of a session to keep the momentum going. It takes consistency to shift mindset and learned ways of being. As clients are able to hold a healing and keep their energy body open, healing deepens.
How am I different from other healers? I think we all look at life through the lens of our entire existence. In my life, I’ve experienced the depths of darkness and despair and had horrible things happen. After living in avoidance for years, I went through it instead of around it and came out the other side. Nothing scares me. Nothing offends me. In working through my own woundings I can sit with my clients and with theirs and hold space for them, listening compassionately while helping them to see themselves as I see them with all their beautiful core qualities.
What I am most proud of is my clients and the changes they have made in their lives. Change can be hard and scary! As humans, I think we avoid it as much as possible, ‘til we can’t anymore. It takes courage, strength, and commitment to shift, and my clients impress me so much as they do this work. I’m touched and honored to be on this path with them.

Thank you Susan! Great article. Great work. I love that you treat the cause not medicate the symptoms. I went to the Barbara Brennan School of Healing when my sons were leaving home and I was dissatisfied with my nursing career. I now have a private healing practice and work with clients worldwide.
Susan was my classmate at BBSH and I have a lot of respect for her personal and professional work.
