Exploring Life & Business with Porsha Hall of The Curly Fashionista

Today we’d like to introduce you to Porsha Hall.

Hi Porsha, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My passion for styling natural hair sparked in 2012 when I attended Kent State University Fashion School. Growing up in a predominantly white community to attending KSU I was able to witness seeing more African American women with versatile styles of their hair I’ve never experienced before. I started practicing the styles on my hair for fun until one day someone asked if I serviced clients. After graduation and working in the fashion industry, I decided to finally take the leap of faith and start my business, The Curly Fashionista officially in 2018. I made a commitment to myself to allow other women to feel just as confident as I do in my protective styles through my brand. Present-day, I am very honored to say I have successfully been growing my business and building long-lasting relationships with other like-minded women who strive to achieve a healthy hair lifestyle.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
To be honest, it has been smooth in a way. I was more than willing to take on learning a new skill and career because of my commitment to my passions. Of course, transitioning from the fashion industry to the hair industry was a challenging switch in terms of learning how to navigate clients and business practices. Without the lessons I faced, I wouldn’t have been able to learn how much my talents were worthy and how to show others that value as well.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Curly Fashionista?
I am a Natural Protective Stylist for my own business The Curly Fashionista. My business name represents who I am connecting both my talents from the fashion industry into hair. I believe the arts of both are similar when I am styling my client’s hair. I specialize in Passion Twists, Marley Twists, Senegalese Twists, and Butterfly Locs. I appreciate my clientele because they are very kind in giving me such great feedback. What sets me apart from others in my field and the most review I have is how professional my business is conducted. With my marketing background, I have been able to successfully reach a sophisticated target audience for my business on social media. I understand it can be difficult to balance school and yourself care which is why I provide a 10% discount for valid college students for all of my services.

What’s next?
I truly love where my business is heading. For the future, I am planning on expanding my reach by opening up national state traveling tours to cities to style clients who are not located in my hometown. I would also love to reach the celebrity market in fashion and the film industry styling as well.
