Today we’d like to introduce you to Nova Levante. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Background:

Nova Levante was born in Bellbrook, Ohio, to a family that valued education and intellectual pursuits. Her father was a technical writer, and her mother was an English college professor. Nova’s sister also pursued a career in the hospitality industry, and she is now the Food and Beverage Director at the Spooky Nook in Butler County, Ohio.

Nova’s academic achievements were apparent from an early age, as she graduated from high school at the young age of 14. She then went on to earn a triple major in politics, economics, and philosophy from Spring Arbor University, graduating cum laude at the age of 19. Nova continued her academic pursuits by earning a master’s degree in politics with a focus on cyber security from Rutgers University, graduating magna cum laude at the age of 22. She also attained a Computer Programming certificate from Jackson College before starting law school.

At the University of Dayton School of Law, Nova excelled in her studies and was involved in various extracurricular activities. She served as a BARBRI representative and a Deans Fellow, teaching a class of 1Ls for a semester. Nova was also elected President of both the Federalist Society and the American Constitutional Society student groups, and she was a member of the Leadership Honors Team and a full scholarship recipient. She graduated from law school at the age of 24, passing the bar exam on her first attempt.

Career:

Nova’s legal career began when she worked for LexisNexis as a legal technology trainer while waiting for her bar results. After passing the bar, she started her career as a debt and bankruptcy attorney in Colorado before moving back to the Midwest during Covid. Nova did a summer law clerkship at Baker Hostetler before becoming the managing attorney at Fox and Associates, where she trained associate attorneys in family, estate, and bankruptcy law, managed the firm’s social media, built the firm two computers from Micro Center parts, and created then led the paralegal and law student intern program.

Nova then worked for Shur Law, where she revamped the HR department – researched, created, and implemented sick pay, PTO, and base pay for the first time in the firm’s history. She also created and was a member of the finance committee and was the attorney heading the debt collection small claims cases against clients who never paid for their legal services. Nova managed the website and led the document automation team while working with Documate and Lawyaw. Additionally, she created and led the law student intern program, implemented firmwide attorney introduction/case-specific instruction letters to clients, and updated the clauses in firmwide fee agreements, all while being the law firm’s second-highest billable hours-earning attorney.

Leo Law:

After years of managing other people’s firms, Nova decided it was time to start her own 5-star firm. In 2023, she founded Leo Law, a law firm that focuses on family, estate, and bankruptcy law. Leo Law is dedicated to providing its clients with top-notch legal representation while staying at the forefront of technological innovation to make it more efficient and cost-effective for clients.

Volunteer/Legal Aid Work:

Nova is also passionate about volunteering for the Clermont County Parks District, fostering dogs in Hamilton and Clermont Counties, and promoting mental health awareness as a board member of the Clermont County Mental Health and Recovery Board. Further, she has been a pro bono (GAL) child advocate attorney for abuse, neglect, and dependency cases for three years and is a Guardian of the Person for two local Clermont County Community members in need. Nova is also an annual participant in the Adopt-A-Senior program in Clermont County. Lastly, she is a guest lecturer at the University of Dayton School of Law who teaches the importance of emotional intelligence, manners, and psychology in the practice of law.

Personal Life:

In her personal life, Nova prioritizes her family, spending Sunday dinners with her in-laws every week. She and her husband, Alex, a mechanical engineer and landlord, share their home with their beloved cat and loyal dog. In her leisure time, Nova enjoys expressing her creativity through various artistic pursuits such as watercolor painting and creative writing. She spends the majority of her winters, court hearings allowing, in Florida at the family’s Bradenton vacation home.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
COVID-19 hitting just as I started practicing law was a lot. It was scary and it changed the direction of my life from living in Denver, CO to living in Cincinnati, Ohio. Coming from below the poverty line and encountering homelessness as a child was certainly a challenge as well.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I have always believed that hard work and determination can shape the course of one’s life. My journey from rags to riches is a testament to that belief, as I defied the odds and achieved success through relentless effort and unwavering ambition. It was a risk to dream bigger and push myself to attain more in life.

My story began with an unconventional start. After graduating from high school at the young age of 14, I was eager to embark on my educational journey. I pursued my undergraduate studies, completing them by the age of 19, and then swiftly moved on to pursue a master’s degree and a certificate in computer programming, which I obtained at the age of 22. Not content with just a master’s degree, I pushed myself further and decided to pursue a JD in law with a focus on technology, which I successfully completed by the age of 24, passing the bar exam with flying colors (280 Score).

With my qualifications in hand, I ventured into the legal profession, serving multiple law firms as an associate attorney. However, I didn’t limit myself to the role of a lawyer alone. I also took on firm management responsibilities, showcasing my versatility and dedication to my work. My commitment and expertise did not go unnoticed, and my hard work paid off when I took the bold step of starting my own law firm at the young age of 28.

Leo Law, my law firm, quickly flourished, expanding to six locations and employing a team of 12 exceptional individuals. My vision and determination allowed me to build a reputable and successful practice. My efforts and expertise were recognized by prestigious institutions such as Marquis Who’s Who and Top 100 Attorneys magazine, solidifying my position as an accomplished attorney.

But my journey wasn’t solely about professional achievements. I firmly believe that success should be accompanied by a sense of responsibility and a commitment to giving back to the community. I have a strong servant’s heart. In line with this belief, I became actively involved in volunteer and pro bono work.

I dedicated my time and skills to the Clermont County Parks District, offering my assistance in various capacities. Additionally, I fostered dogs in Hamilton and Clermont Counties, providing them with love and care. Mental health awareness was another cause close to my heart, and I serve as a board member of the Clermont County Mental Health and Recovery Board.

Furthermore, I became a pro bono child advocate attorney specializing in abuse, neglect, and dependency cases. For three years, I fought tirelessly for the rights of vulnerable children, ensuring their safety and well-being. As a Guardian of the Person for two local community members in need, I strived to make a positive impact in their lives.

One of my cherished annual commitments is participating in the Adopt-A-Senior program in Clermont County, bringing joy and companionship to elderly members of the community. Additionally, I served as a guest lecturer at the University of Dayton School of Law, imparting knowledge about emotional intelligence, manners, and psychology in the practice of law.

Despite my professional accomplishments and community involvement, I have always placed great importance on my personal life. Family is a priority for me, and I make it a point to spend Sunday dinners with my in-laws every week. Alongside my husband, Alex, a mechanical engineer and landlord, I share a home filled with love, laughter, and companionship with our beloved cat and loyal dog. And one our the common saying around our entrepreneurial home is “You’ve got to risk it for the biscuit.” Meaning we play big, not just long.

In my leisure time, I find solace in expressing my creativity through various artistic pursuits, such as watercolor painting and creative writing. And when court hearings allow, I escape to our family’s vacation home in Bradenton, Florida, where I can rejuvenate and enjoy the warm winters.

My life’s journey has taught me that success is not simply a destination but rather a continuous process of growth, both personally and professionally. By believing in the life, I deserve and working relentlessly to attain it, I have been able to transform my circumstances and make a positive impact on the lives of those around me and the community I serve.
