Lex , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey into dog training and animal care began with a deep fascination for how animals think, learn, and communicate. Over time, this passion grew into a commitment to helping dogs and their owners build stronger, more trusting relationships. Through hands-on experience and continuous learning, I developed an approach centered on clear communication, trust, and positive reinforcement.
At Collared Conduct, I provide dogs with opportunities to engage their instincts and develop important life skills. From scent work enrichment and obedience training to adventure walks, confidence-building exercises, socialization work, and sensory activities, each experience is designed to enhance both the dog’s well-being and the human-animal bond. I also offer selective opportunities for pack walks, creating controlled environments where dogs can learn from one another. My ultimate goal is to foster confidence, good behavior, and teamwork between pets and their humans.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like any journey, building Collared Conduct hasn’t always been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been breaking through common misconceptions about dog training. Many people expect quick fixes, but true behavior change takes time, patience, and consistency. Educating owners on the importance of communication, trust, and enrichment has been an ongoing effort, but it’s one I’m passionate about.
Another challenge has been tailoring training and enrichment opportunities to fit each dog’s unique personality and needs. No two dogs learn the same way, so I constantly adapt my approach to ensure every dog gets the right balance of structure, engagement, and support. It’s incredibly rewarding to see the progress, but it requires a deep understanding of both the dog and their human.
Additionally, running a business in the pet industry comes with its own set of hurdles—balancing training, client education, and business operations all at once. However, every challenge has reinforced my commitment to what I do. Seeing dogs grow in confidence, develop good behavior, and strengthen their bond with their owners makes all the effort worth it.
