Exploring Life & Business with Kia Goodson of SiStars Speak Foundation

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kia Goodson.

Hi Kia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story didn’t begin with a nonprofit or entrepreneurship. It began with God placing a purpose in my heart to serve others.
I am first and foremost a daughter of God, and my greatest desire has always been to serve people well. Long before SiStars Speak Foundation existed, or before I began building the vision God entrusted to me, I knew there was something inside of me that was meant to encourage, advocate for, and uplift others.. As I’ve grown in my faith, I’ve realized that purpose wasn’t something I had to create but it was something God had already placed within me.
Recently, I have also come to appreciate how beautifully God wove that calling into my family history. While my identity is rooted in Christ alone, learning more about my lineage has given me an even deeper appreciation for His providence. My family has a rich legacy of faith, leadership, entrepreneurship, and community service. Members of my family were among the pioneers behind one of the first Black-owned trucking companies on Eastern Long Island, and they also helped build one of the area’s historic churches. I also have Montaukett Native American heritage through my family, a people known for their resilience, leadership, and stewardship of community. Looking back, I can now see that serving others has always been part of the legacy God entrusted to my family.
That same heart led me to establish Sister Speak in 2019. What began as a vision to encourage and empower women has continued to grow. In 2026, that vision expanded into Sister Speak Foundation, a registered nonprofit dedicated to empowering women to recognize their God-given worth through education, advocacy, mentorship, and community outreach.
Like many people, my journey has included seasons of rebuilding. I’ve experienced personal loss, unexpected transitions, and moments that tested my faith. Yet each season has taught me that God often prepares us through the very experiences we would never choose for ourselves. Those seasons didn’t take me off course. God used every one of them to shape the woman I am today.
Today, all of those pieces have come together. My faith and my heart for people have become the foundation for everything I do. Whether through SiStars Speak Foundation, leadership, advocacy, or simply showing up for someone who needs encouragement, it all points back to the same mission: helping women recognize their God-given worth, discover their voice, and understand that their past does not have to define their future.
As I enter this next season of life, I measure success differently than I once did. Success isn’t simply about titles or accomplishments. It’s about legacy. It’s about leaving people better because our paths crossed. If my life helps point someone toward hope, purpose, healing, or a deeper relationship with God, then I know I’m walking in the assignment He created me to fulfill.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road, but I can honestly say God has been faithful through every season. I wouldn’t change the journey because every challenge has shaped the woman I am today.
My journey has included seasons of rebuilding, uncertainty, and having to start over. I’ve navigated personal transitions and, over the last few years, have walked through profound grief with the loss of my son-in-love, my father, and a woman who became like a second mother to me. Those experiences changed me in ways I never expected.
Building a nonprofit has also required patience, perseverance, and a willingness to keep moving forward even when progress wasn’t always visible. Earlier this year, I had to revisit the foundation of the organization to officially establish SiStars Speak Foundation as a 501(c)(3). That process included untangling administrative issues from years earlier and ensuring everything was built on a solid foundation for the future. It reminded me that sometimes God calls us to strengthen the foundation before He expands the vision.
However, through every challenge, my faith has remained my anchor. I’ve learned that purpose isn’t proven during the easy seasons; it’s revealed during the difficult ones. Every obstacle has strengthened my compassion, deepened my dependence on God, and reinforced my commitment to serve others with integrity and excellence.
Today, I no longer see those seasons as setbacks. I see them as preparation for the work God has entrusted to me.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about SiStars Speak Foundation?
SiStars Speak Foundation exists to empower, educate, and equip women to recognize their God-given worth, discover their voice, and walk confidently in their purpose. What began in 2019 as a God-given vision to encourage women has grown into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to strengthening women and communities through mentorship, advocacy, education, outreach, and leadership development.
At the heart of everything I do is the belief that transformation begins when women understand their value. I know firsthand what it feels like to question your worth, lose sight of your identity, and have life’s experiences shape how you see yourself. That personal journey has become the foundation of my work and fuels my passion for helping others experience healing, hope, and freedom.
In addition to leading SiStars Speak Foundation, I serve as a minister, author, mentor, and entrepreneur. My You’re Worthy journal was created to help women intentionally rebuild their confidence, strengthen their identity, and embrace the truth of who they are in Christ. Through Her Pouring Place, I create a safe space where women can be poured into while also finding the courage to pour into one another. It’s a place where stories can be shared, healing can begin, authentic connections can be formed, where practical tools encourage personal growth while always pointing women back to hope. Through mentoring, teaching, and the resources I create, my desire is to equip women with the confidence and support they need to walk boldly in the purpose God has for their lives. Everything I create is built with one hope in mind: to love women into their freedom so they leave feeling seen, valued, equipped, and confident in who God created them to be.

If there’s one thing I hope readers take away from my story, it’s that purpose isn’t reserved for a select few. God has placed gifts, purpose, and potential inside each of us. Sometimes life’s experiences can cause us to question our worth, but our circumstances never change our identity in Christ.

I often remind women that when they truly understand their God-given worth, everything changes. They begin to steward their lives differently, walk more confidently in their purpose, and build the kind of legacy God always intended.

My prayer is that every woman I encounter leaves knowing she is seen, valued, worthy, and more than enough because of Whose she is. I pray she has the courage to embrace her God-given purpose, walk confidently in it, and trust God to do more through her life than she could ever imagine. That’s the kind of legacy I hope to leave.
