Exploring Life & Business with Jimmie Lee of American States Wrestling Alliance (ASWA)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jimmie Lee

Hi Jimmie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
The ASWA (American States Wrestling Alliance) is an independent professional wrestling company that has been providing family friendly events since 1989 when it was founded by Kid Collins. I began my journey with the ASWA shortly after it started up and have been part of it ever since. In my earlier years, I was trained as a wrestler by Kid Collins and performed all over and later became a trainer and then around 2011 I ventured into the business end of things as well. I wanted to learn every facet of the business and got into the promotional and marketing side of pro wrestling as well as remaining a talent as “The Living Nightmare” Jimmie Lee.
I utilized all of my experiences from my work and travels in the wrestling business to help make the ASWA what it is today. I not only wrestled for the ASWA but many other companies including the WWE and NWA. I strive to bring fans the best experience they can get at each and every event.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing worth having is ever easy. Although there are many smooth lengths of roads on your journey, you do run into rough patches to navigate through. As a wrestler, some of the struggles you may encounter is dealing with bad apple promoters that don’t want to pay agreed booking fees, wrestling others who may not have been trained professionally and risking injury from their sub bar skills or having to sit on the sidelines from injuries and not being able to make a living.
As a promoter, struggles can include things like dealing with stubborn venue operators, finding sponsors, unexpected cancellations of talent, bad weather to force possible cancellations of event just to name a few off the top of my head.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about American States Wrestling Alliance (ASWA)?
The ASWA brings fans live pro wrestling events where they can enjoy a night of exciting action that is fun for the entire family. We take pride in our fans and appreciate each and every one of them who attend our events. We keep ticket prices very affordable because we know not everyone has a lot of spare income to take their entire family to special events and some people just can’t make it to the big arenas in the bigger cities to see pro wrestling so we bring it to them.
I personally deal with a lot of the promotional and marketing of the ASWA as well as train professional wrestlers who want to get their start. I am also a graphic artist and do a lot of the graphic work for the ASWA to help give the company its own unique look. Some of the things that set us apart from others are providing entertainment that appeals to both the “old school” and the contemporary fans by having matches booked with seasoned vets along with providing a platform where new and up & coming talent can showcase their skills.
What I’m most proud of is that I was able to carry on the tradition of the ASWA that Kid Collins built and that it’s been in existence since 1989. I’m also proud of all of the hard work that all of the wrestlers, event staff & crew put in to give the fans a top shelf experience. We are also proud of the fact that we help with an annual fundraiser for Autism Awareness and help bring attention to autism and raise funds for various autism groups including the Autism Society of Greater Akron.
I would like everyone to know that fans who attend our shows will have some of the best fun they’ve ever had. They will be surprised at all of the interaction they can have with the wrestlers. Even if you’ve never watched pro wrestling a day in your life and come to one of our shows, I promise you’ll have a great time and could very well become a fan of the ASWA!

What’s next?
Some of things we are looking into for the future are getting a weekly TV show produced and launched so we can expand our reach to entertain even more wrestling fans. We also have in the works to launch a subscription app where fans can view wrestling matches, interviews, vignettes and possibly interact with some of the talent.
