Exploring Life & Business with Jessica Ramirez of Balance Health and Nutrition

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Ramirez.

Hi Jessica, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I originally received my undergraduate degree in Marketing and worked in Sales for 7 years. After getting into a life changing car accident and receiving amazing care from doctors and nurses I decided I wanted to go back to school and pursue a degree in Nursing. I worked as a nurse for over 16 years. What I started to realize after quite some time was that all I was doing was giving medication instead of working with my patients on diet and lifestyle to improve their health. During this time I was going through my own health struggles and also had become fed up with years of trying every diet out there. I took the initiative to heal body and my relationship with food and decided to go back to school to get my Masters in Nutrition. Now I coach individuals one on one in the areas of weight loss, gut health, food sensitivities, autoimmune disease and diabetes. I opened my private practice in December of 2019.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There certainly were some struggles and questioning my decision to pursue another career and open my private practice. I questioned that I had the ability to run a successful practice. However, I told myself there was no “plan B” and building a successful practice was something I was determined to do and have

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Balance Health and Nutrition?
I provide one on one nutrition coaching to men, woman, and adolescents. I specialize in weight loss resistance, gut health, food sensitivties, autoimmune disease, and prediabetes/diabetes.

I have great relationships with my clients. I get to know them and their everyday life. I build their plan around them and their likes and dislikes. I take a “coach approach” not I’m the “expert of your life” approach. I look at each client as an individual and do not ever apply a one size fits all. I provide education on why they are choosing the foods they are choosing and I feel once they understand how their food choices affect cravings, energy, hormone balance, etc, they are able to create permanent habits they are able to sustain for life. I look at each client relationship as a partnership and I want to give them the tools to do life with food. Teach them to create eating patterns not teach them to diet.

I am proud of the one on one customized guidance and support I provide to each individual. They don’t feel judged and can reach out to me at any time with questions or extra support. I feel that the relationships I have with my clients sets me apart from other nutritionists. They trust me and know that I am there to support them every step of the way.

I take a Functional Medicine and Nutrition approach and look at Food as Medicine. Focusing what we eat dictates how our genes express themselves.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love all that it has to offer. The parks, bike trails, restaurants and of course Bridge Park. I dislike our taxes
