Exploring Life & Business with Jasmine Caver of The J’Marie Collection

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Caver

Hi Jasmine, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My love for shoes came from my grandmother… I remember being a small girl and realizing like wow she has a lot of shoes. So much that we had three closets in our house just for shoes. My favorite thing with her was to go shoe shopping. As I got older my aunt also had one of the most amazing shoe games I ever saw. Becoming a grown woman and always having to order shoes online because there was a huge lack for them in the malls in Cincinnati. I’m like I need to sell shoes, This is an untapped market and it’s something that I actually love and that people notice about me. I think that the business would do well. But I also knew I didn’t want a physical store. I’m a huge online shopper and I also knew that I wanted my business to reach more than just the people in Cincinnati. When’s first dropped I did it as pickups only just using social media and I had so much support . I’m like I have to hurry and open up online so it’s more convenient and so I can be able to sell more . So I hit up my my friend Ashley and asked her to do me a website and boom… that’s how it started!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One thing about being an entrepreneur that I’ve learned is it’s not a smooth journey. It’s a rewarding one. It’s mentally challenging and it does feel a lot better than working for someone else when you see your progress….. but honey it will stress you out. People only see what they consider the success of the business . They don’t know how many times you broke even, took losses, had to pivot missed out on important life events because you sometimes have to pause everything to be a business owner. It’s apart of the reason I had to take a break. I couldn’t completely focus on my business 100% because so much was going on in my life. But the thing about your business is you can rebrand and start again any time you want. Especially when you have built your brand and have a a good customer base.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The J’Marie Collection?
My business is based on online sales. I sell womens shoes , I also have clothes and accessories but the main product is womens shoes.

I think what sets me apart from other doing it is that I got my logo into my shoes because I was getting them manufactured and I feel like that’s what set the tone for me in the city. After I dropped my OG slide. Which is a beaded and braided sandal. That was my best seller and my first shoe with my logo in them. I feel like the people were so happy for me. I love giving my customers a quality and a look that they won’t find other places. At least not at my pricing .. I also knew I was really making my mark when the men are coming to shop for the women in their lives. That shows you’re really making noise when the fellas know what the ladies want and are into.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t believe in luck. I believe in things happening when they are supposed to happen and that’s backed by hard work and life experience and continuous opportunities of learning and growing.
