Today we’d like to introduce you to Dayejon Golston Haskins
Hi Dayejon, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Started out growing up was just me and my mom and siblings I was the only man in the house, so somebody had to do all the work fix things put stuff together so as a kid I used to always build all sorts of things then fast forward to 2012 when I lost my grandmother to cancer before she left she wrote me a letter that I still have and she was basically saying make sure I take care of my mom and siblings and she also told me to make sure when I get older to do some with my hands I’m good at it so after that happened I went down a whole different path got to high school started hanging with the wrong crowds failing classes Etc. So, my parents put me in a program that was at my high school for at risk teen called Students of Promise which that helped me get back on track. Then I got into the construction tech program which made me fall in love with the trade which was one of the first classes I was at the top in then after I graduated went to trade school for carpentry worked for a general contractor on big jobs little everything learned a lot from them then once I completed trade school I left them and started my own company KMG Home Remodeling which the KMG is my grandmother initials named the company after her in her honor.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s not always easy starting out as a small business owner but I was able to manage the first few months was slow sitting by the phone waiting for a call nothing I got desperate I would’ve taken anything just to pay the bills it was little jobs here and there but noting to keep me afloat

We are a licensed bonded and insured general contractor. We do everything from Carpentry, Tile, Flooring, Electrical, plumbing, decks, painting. Kitchen, Bathroom, & basement remodels you name it we do it. What differentiate us from others is the quality of our & we take pride in saying that from going behind other contractors who messed up a job and wasted the clients’ money or going to places where the contractors never returned and just stole the clients’ money KMG is a company you can trust to get the job done on time & on budget. We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
The covid 19 crisis taught me how to slow down I believe I jumped into this a bit early right before covid started was when I made the jump to entrepreneurship, so it was hard to be going thru that and sitting at home and no calls for any jobs not saying don’t or be scared but just make sure you are prepared for the headaches that come with it and the slow period and it’s always good to make sure you have a backup plan or a good team behind you
