Today we’d like to introduce you to Dale King.
Dale, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Born and raised in Portsmouth, I moved away to attend college at Capital University and later serve in the US Army, with multiple deployments to Iraq. Upon leaving the military, he returned home to open PSKC CrossFit in 2010 to build a stronger community that had been ravaged by a depressed economy and opioid addiction.
From there, I would co-found Doc Spartan, which landed a successful deal on ABC’s Shark Tank in 2017, and during the pandemic in 2020, I opened up Spartan Solutions Group.
Both companies proudly employ people in recovery.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I’ve made every possible mistake you can make when it comes to owning/operating a business. I own a customer service business, an online direct-to-consumer product business, and a business-to-business service business. Each of these entities come with their own unique challenges and difficulties. The main part is to learn from your mistakes and never quit.

We are a CrossFit gym in Portsmouth, Ohio. We specialize in forging elite fitness for the common person and using CrossFit to help people suffering from substance use disorder.

Doc Spartan is a successful Shark Tank Company that handcrafts all-natural skincare and grooming products. Our mission is to fight the opioid epidemic in our town through purposeful employment.
The growth of our company is directly tied to the personal growth of our employees who are in recovery and the town of Portsmouth, Ohio.

We are taking on China by playing a small role in bringing manufacturing back to our small town.
