Today we’d like to introduce you to Conrad Daniel.
Hi Conrad, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Well, I’d say my story begins like any other fairy tale… way before Truly Heal Wellness was even an idea or a place on the map, my passion was always people. I just did not have a clue that I would end up here. I grew up in a smaller town in Southeast Ohio, where we say “Oh-hi-uhh” rather than “Oh-hi-o.” That small town was Zanesville, known for its “Y” bridge; it had many things to offer, including a police athletics league. This is where I learned to box by retired and volunteer police officers. It was also where I fell in love with movement and how the body works. That town is where I spent most of my childhood and where I was raised partly by my grandmother. She, among many other things, taught me compassion for people and helping those in need. She was a poet, an accountant, grandmother, mother, sister, best friend, and my biggest cheerleader. I believe she had the most profound effect on me and my future. After high school, I did what most people do; I settled down and married, but had many trials along the way. I had children and lost track of what I wanted most out of life, which was to help others. I didn’t know where to begin at all. I worked various jobs throughout the years like welding, carpentry, farming. I also worked as a director at a mental health facility as well as a warehouse worker and went to college during my twenties. During this time, I had lost more than I had gained, including my grandmother, so you could say time was not on my side. By this time, I had also trained as an MMA fighter and gained some inspiration as to what exactly I wanted to do with my life. I took a look at it and decided it was time to make a change, but this reminded me that life tries its hardest sometimes to make us bitter. At 28, I was divorced and made a move to Northeast Ohio. I began to build something I would be proud of. I remarried and went back to college while working to obtain my medical license as a massage therapist; I worked multiple jobs. One of which was in a chiropractor’s office that decided to give me a shot before graduating, working as an aide with the intention of moving me up after graduation. I was not deterred by hard work as it made me strive to be the best I could be. At this time, I was still in school and gaining more certifications along the way and also working another job at a massage studio. I gained a lot more knowledge working in the field as I was learning massage work in school. After graduating from the Cleveland Institute of Medical Massage, I sat out to build Truly Heal Wellness with nothing but a little cash saved and a solid will to bring something to Fairlawn, Ohio. I strived to build something that was unlike any other wellness studio around. I wanted to make treatments accessible and available to everyone and to help as many people as possible. So many individuals are in pain caused by being overworked, poor posture, and many other things. I decided to integrate personal training and massage therapy with movement education and nutritional coaching for a well-rounded concept approach to healing. Thus, creating Truly Heal Wellness. A practice that is a one-stop shop for those in need but unaware of where to start. I take individuals as they are and make personalized programs based on their needs. I provide encouragement and one on one treatments tailored to each and every person that walks through my doors. I believe that if our bodies aren’t fighting themselves, then they can fix themselves. I worked hard to gain the knowledge and expertise to be able to teach others exactly that while still helping to facilitate that healing.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
So, to answer that question… this fairytale has been such a ride. It has its ups and downs, like being part of others’ lives in such a rewarding and profound way, but also a lot of paperwork, documentation, and did I mention so much paperwork? It takes a lot to get things running smoothly, and doing it completely on my own has been a bit of a struggle. But I have met amazing people with inspiring stories. Incredible doctors who still hold patient care close to their hearts, chiropractors who also have taught me so many modalities and tools to help heal people. It hasn’t always been smooth sailing due to working multiple jobs to provide for my family, and moving to a new place was frightening and very difficult. But my struggles have taught me more about life, these obstacles have made me hungrier than ever to provide a great service to my community. This has not only pushed me to help my own clients in every way possible but has also led me to many amazing opportunities to help people outside of Truly Heal Wellness, such as being invited to attend events like Elevate Akron and working with the University of Akron’s football team.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
My journey has brought me to gain awareness of the lack of proper treatment for those with musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction; thus, I created a place where anyone can come and feel welcome and where a holistic approach is taken by creating individualized programs to treat these conditions and the whole person. One that addresses postural issues that may lead to imbalances, fitness, nutrition, and personal goals to achieve sustainability and health in an effective and efficient way. This nonlinear way of treating every single person who walks through the door as an individual allows a tailored program and a seamless visit every single time. Being able to understand the needs of an individual is key. The goal at Truly Heal Wellness is to better prepare, educate, heal, and ultimately help others be the best version of themselves. I am most proud to have my wife, Tori, who continues to support me and push me to keep up this work. I believe that no matter how difficult the business side of this is at times, it always gets easier as I learn and grow; I am not always motivated though, I don’t believe anyone is all the time. So, why not make the best of the time we have and be inspired to keep dreaming? That is what keeps me going.
My philosophy is to bring normalcy and balance to as many people as I possibly can through integration of nutrition, exercise, bodywork, and breathwork for the mind, the body, and the soul. My brand is sincerely about finding ways to keep people moving. Especially in this digital age of technology. My logo is something my wife drew by hand that derives from a Buddhist symbol which means essentially being one with oneself and taking care of oneself. The statement of just being, learning to do just bring balance and “be.”
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
If anyone would like to support me, please feel free to email me at info@trulyhealwellness.com or follow me on social media. I am always trying to improve my practice therefore, comments and recommendations are greatly appreciated. My plan is to introduce more content in the future, including a YouTube channel and a few projects to put my practice out there and continue to try and help as many people as possible. This hopefully includes an app, a podcast, exercise videos, and nutritional education. I have been in business now for close to a year, but I am always evolving, and if there is anyone who would like to work with me or collaborate, please feel free to reach out!
