Today we’d like to introduce you to Aslan Shakirov

Hi Aslan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am originally from Uzbekistan, of Meskhetian Turkish descent. I lived in migration until I moved to the U.S. after the war began in Russia. My family has always been in business—my father owned a concrete factory, and I grew up in this industry. When I arrived in America, I saw an opportunity to start my own concrete plant.

The journey was not easy. I sought investors, attended conferences, found a sales manager, and personally built the plant, overseeing everything from purchasing land to shipping equipment. I also hired workers, offering jobs to people from Geneva and Ashtabula. The plant was completed in six months, and I obtained all the necessary permits.

Along the way, I lost many friends and faced skepticism. Competitors refused to help when I needed support, but I believe that we should support each other and be united. However, I persevered. My optimism and determination helped me overcome challenges. Today, I already have my first order for concrete delivery.

I believe that every immigrant should work for the betterment of themselves and the country, and it is during crises that we become stronger. America must remain strong, and businesspeople should support the nation in difficult times. I graduated with a degree in International Relations, and I am confident that together we can achieve great things.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was not an easy journey. I faced several challenges along the way:
I believe that no journey is easy, but my confidence let me know that I would overcome this journey.

Skepticism from others: Many people doubted my ability to succeed, which was discouraging. I lost friends who did not believe in my vision.
Finding support: My competitors refused to help me when I needed concrete, which made it difficult to get started. I had to rely solely on my own resources and determination.
Overcoming regulations: Getting permits from local governments and environmental agencies was a complex and time-consuming process, which added pressure to my timeline.
Financial challenges: It was difficult at first to find investors willing to support my venture. I had to demonstrate that my plan was viable despite the risks.
Building a team: Hiring the right people and building a good team culture took time and effort, especially when I was new to the field. I am grateful to my partners who supported me!
