Exploring Life & Business with Ahmed Diop of Ahmed’s Kitchen LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ahmed Diop

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
With an unorthodox entrance into the food industry, I was able to go from dishwasher to executive chef within a year’s time span and run one of the most successful catering businesses in the Columbus, Ohio area. I started off selling plates in my college dorm, and soon found myself in industrial kitchen. My purpose is to build a bridge for the communities that I have been a part of that have affected me, specifically black and lower income communities. I have done community engagement through the schools by giving back through my time and working with the kids, as well as being able to offer
unique cuisine, taking my African roots, combining them with my African American culture, and creating a truly unique experience. It’s more than just a food, it’s a brand. We want to do media, we want to have sponsorships, we want to build schools, and just increase, inspire the youth and give them something they can see that is tangible.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
“Can’t take the heat, well stay out of the kitchen”, is truly an understatement when it comes to working in the food industry. There have been many struggles, but for every struggle, there was a lesson and a blessing in disguise. From not being paid for my work, to contract breaches, I have pretty much experienced it all. One thing I can say confidently, is that I came out a better business man and better equipped for the industry after each experience.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I was born in Dakar, Senegal and moved to America when I was young. I grew up in
Columbus, Ohio, where I graduated Valedictorian from Eastmoor Academy High School. I
then attended he Ohio State University ,where I was a psychology pre- med student
graduating with my Bachelor of Science in Psychology. The fusion of African and African American culinary traditions sets our offerings apart. We emphasize authenticity and innovation, blending traditional flavors with modern culinary techniques.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Don’t be afraid to make the first move when it comes to building a valuable connection. Creating those personal relationships have opened up more doors for me than even the quality of my work. Don’t get me wrong, you still must execute upon arrival, but getting to the destination requires a lot more help than a lot of people think. You can learn from anyone, so don’t ever underestimate anyone.
