Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrianne Jones.
Hi Adrianne, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I started working with older adults in 2014 when I graduated from Georgia State University Gerontology Institute. I was so excited to start a new career, and be able to work with a population that I adore! I love my seniors! My first job was working as a case manager, and I loved it, but I realized that most of the seniors on my caseload needed more resources.
Not only did these seniors have gaps in services, but they also didn’t know what to look for, and where to look. When I left case management I left to connect seniors and caregivers with those services that could make a difference. Primarily, I started consulting with businesses that served senior consumers and caregivers. Six years later my business has grown into a large diverse clientele, which has allowed me to work on university research projects, program implementation, and special government projects.
Most recently, I launched my radio program, the “GERO-Juice”, which is a senior-focused radio show bringing awareness to common health, mental, and social issues affecting the aging process and older adulthood, and connecting my audience to the best professionals in the aging network.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This road most definitely has not been easy or smooth. I’ve had to overcome many challenges that are expected when you are an entrepreneur. For example, starting I did not have the money for marketing, so I had to make the most of any given situation. Then for the most part I didn’t know what I needed so it was a lot of trial and error. I would say the most challenging part was knowing there was a need for my business and getting people to see that need.
There were many times I would get my hopes up for a “big” meeting, anticipating it would be productive, and then the outcome would be the opposite of what I expected. Now, the senior industry has completely changed, and it seems like I cannot stop my phone from ringing. Believe it or not…, older adults are a hot topic and an even hotter consumer market!!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Simply. I am a senior advocate, servant leader, and community liaison. The mission of my business is to connect older adults with resources, and resources with older adults. My goal is to educate, not only older adults but their neighbors, families, and friends on how to better support the aging population. We are all aging, and at some point, I and others will need access to good resources. I believe my passion and dedication sets me apart from other businesses like my own.
I like to tell people this is not a 9-5, there are no off days. Like an athlete, I am a community gerontologist on and off the field. I am most proud of my recent project, the “GERO-Juice” radio show. I am so excited about the growth and expansion of this show along with the additions of brand products and merchandise. I want readers to know that my brand is honest. It’s honest, and every piece of it comes from the heart.
