Daily Inspiration: Meet Stephen And Trina Winner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephen And Trina Winner.

Hi Stephen and Trina Winner, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
If you had told us while we were in physical therapy school that one day we’d own a business together, we both would have laughed. We actually promised each other we’d never work together and never own our own practice. God had other plans.

In the end of 2020, in the middle of COVID, we took what many would have called a crazy leap of faith. We left the security of our full-time jobs with three young children at home to open Winning Edge Physical Therapy. We do not come from an entrepreneurial family so this was definitely outside of our comfort zone and a learning process. As therapists in corporate healthcare, we saw too many people being treated as a diagnoses instead of as a whole person. Being pushed on productivity and meeting budgets, we knew there was a better way. We believed healing was about more than a body part or a symptom. God designed the body with an incredible capacity to heal when it’s given the right foundational support, and we wanted to build a practice that honored that design.

As we walked through our own health journey with our daughter, 8 years ago we began asking more questions. We began studying nutrition, foundational wellness, functional medicine, and root-cause healing. Asking not just, “How do we treat this problem?” but “Why is it happening in the first place?” We discovered that true healing often starts long before someone walks into a therapy gym. Nutrition, movement, sleep, stress, minerals, relationships, and even spiritual health all play a role in how our bodies function and heal. We don’t believe we heal people, God does. Our role is to remove obstacles, restore the foundations God designed, and walk alongside each person on their journey toward healing.

What started as a husband/wife duo, and it has grown into something much bigger than we ever could have imagined. Today, Winning Edge combines evidence-based physical therapy with a whole-person approach to wellness, looking beyond symptoms to uncover root causes. We care for athletes, orthopedics, individuals with neurological conditions, vestibular rehab, couples navigating fertility struggles, miscarriages, pregnancy, and postpartum recovery, as well as pediatrics and families seeking a more foundational approach to health. One of God’s greatest blessings has been the people He has brought alongside us, growing into a team of seven incredible therapists who have become like family. Each person shares our heart for serving others with excellence, compassion, and humility. Our culture has never been about simply building a business, it’s about building a team that genuinely loves people and points them toward hope. We’re also in the middle of expanding into The Village Collective, a collaborative space that will bring together physical therapy, women’s health, pediatric therapy, Pilates, and other like-minded practitioners. Practitioners who share a common mission: helping people heal according to God’s design through collaboration instead of competition.

Looking back, we can clearly see God’s hand in every step. There have been moments of uncertainty, long hours, financial risks, and plenty of challenges. Every season has strengthened our faith and continually reminds us that this business was never really ours, it has always been His. Our mission remains the same as it was on day one: to elevate wellness inside and out by serving people with excellence, compassion, through a whole-person approach that truly seeks the root cause, restores the foundations of health, and ultimately points people back to the incredible design of their Creator.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
From the outside, it may look like everything has fallen into place. People have told us “wow you are so lucky, you make it look easy.” The reality is so much different than that. We are pretty transparent in that we often times have to learn as we go though situations. It’s been such a process and far from easy.

Building a business has been one of the hardest things we’ve ever done. Harder than childbirth! We’ve had to learn how to be leaders while still learning ourselves. Navigating the challenges of hiring and growing a team, making difficult decisions and having the hard conversations. We have had to step into seasons that felt overwhelming and uncomfortable. However some seasons look different too as we are currently in the season of waiting. We have quickly outgrown our small space we lease, but bigger spaces are not just sitting empty waiting for us. There have been moments when the pressure has seemed too heavy. We have questioned whether we are cut out for this, and there have even been times we wanted to quit. But every challenge has pushed us to depend less on our own strength and more on God’s faithfulness. The challenges have been things God has used to shape us, strengthen our team, and prepare us for what was next.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At Winning Edge, we believe every person has a story, and every symptom is part of a bigger picture.
While our team consists of Doctors of Physical Therapy, the journey has led all of us far beyond traditional rehabilitation. We’ve become passionate about foundational health, helping people build wellness through nutrition, movement, sleep, stress management, healthy relationships, and restoring the body’s God-given ability to heal. We strive to combine the best available evidence with compassionate, individualized care that treats the whole person, not just a diagnosis.

Stephen has developed a passion for helping people with chronic pain, orthopedic injuries, post concussion injuries, and athletes who have often been told they’ve exhausted their options. Through Residual Strain Therapy and other hands-on myofascial approaches, he focuses on uncovering the underlying patterns contributing to pain and dysfunction rather than simply chasing symptoms. Watching someone regain hope after years of pain is one of the greatest rewards of his work. He recently has been helping young males working through anxiety, sports injuries and underlying nutrient deficiencies.

Trina’s calling has become helping families build a foundation for lifelong health. She is passionate about functional medicine and nutrition, restorative reproductive medicine, preparing couples for conception, identifying root causes of infertility, and supporting women through healthy pregnancies and postpartum recovery as a doula. Her approach recognizes that caring for a mother means caring for her baby as well. By focusing on the mother-baby dyad as well as the dad from preconception through the fourth trimester, she helps families thrive, not just survive, during one of life’s most important seasons.

What sets us apart isn’t one technique or one specialty. It’s the way we care for people. We take time to listen, connect the dots, and look for root causes rather than quick fixes. We collaborate across disciplines, pray with patients when invited, and never lose sight of the fact that every person who walks through our doors has inherent dignity and value. We want our patients to leave feeling seen, heard, empowered, and filled with hope.

Our other therapists have specialty training in advanced neurological and vestibular conditions, TPI Certified Golf Expert, pregnancy/postpartum corrective exercise specialist, women’s and pediatric pelvic health, and most recent addition of Certified Rehab Pilates and ScolioPilates.

We’ve been blessed with an incredible team that genuinely loves people and shares the same mission of serving with excellence, humility, and compassion. Our greatest joy is seeing lives transformed, not only through physical healing, but through renewed hope. We pride ourselves on creating healthier families, and creating a deeper understanding of how wonderfully God designed the human body.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Trina grew up in the quiet countryside with one sibling, surrounded by cornfields on a one-lane stone road. She was the classic rule follower. The perfectionist and people pleaser who always wanted to do things the right way, and care well for those around her. Sports were a big part of her life and taught her discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. She also developed a heart for serving others and paying attention to the little things that make people feel seen and cared for.

Stephen grew up on a dairy farm, where hard work wasn’t optional, it was simply part of everyday life. Early mornings, long days, and a family that valued commitment and responsibility shaped who he is. Sports were another constant, teaching lessons about leadership, grit, and resilience that still influence the way he leads today.
