Daily Inspiration: Meet Stacey Ferrone

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacey Ferrone.

Hi Stacey, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I took cosmetology in high school, and I have been doing nails for 34 years. I went out on my own and rented my space in 2019 and have been growing my business since then. Some of my clients have been with me for over 30 years, with clients as young as four years old and as young as 94 years old. I contribute my success to staying with basic principles that I learned in school and always keeping a smile on my face.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road to building a successful business is never straight nor smooth! I was a young mother at 18, and raised my son while building a career. I have been fortunate to work in an industry that supports families and different paths to success.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a managing cosmetologist by license, but have been working as a manicurist since the age of 23. I have grown my business while being an employee at full service salons, with now renting a space out of a full service salon. I prefer being my own boss with renting space, but also being in a salon atmosphere as opposed to a salon suite. My clients enjoy the atmosphere of the hairstylist and the new styles and creativity that come with working around other beauty professionals. I specialize in natural nail care with a focus on pedicures. I believe that everyone deserves to feel pampered, while also recognizing that the service that I provide is a luxury. I have never treated any Client like a customer, but staying well aware of the fact that I am selling a service. I never take my business, nor do I take any of my clients for granted. I appreciate the hustle, the conversations, and the many cultures I have been exposed to, or families that have welcomed me into their home and their personal lives. I have sat Shiva and have been to one year-old birthday parties for clients. The personal connection that I feel from holding someone’s hand on an average of 30 minutes at a time while servicing up to 8 to 10 clients a day, has allowed me to make some very special bonds over my career.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters to most to me, is that each and every client that sits in my chair has a feeling as if we are having a conversation in my living room. It is important that my clients feel welcomed as they were a guest in my home. The level of trust that I have cultivated over the years is invaluable to me.
When I was early in my manicuring career, an experience nail technician explain to me the fundamental principles of our industry. The perspective she shared with me, not only enlighten me, but has guided my entire career.
It’s easy for beauty professionals to follow the golden rule. Do onto to others, as you would have them due onto you. The reality of the beauty industry, is that we are the only other professionals that the general public will allow us to touch them. Touch their hair, feet, hands, and all other places that do not need to be listed! Outside of a physician, I cannot think of to this day over 34 years of being a manicurist that society allows us so freely to touch them in such personal spaces, respectfully and professionally. Doctors and beauty professionals are simply the only professional people society generally accepts to touch them on a personal basis. That is no small action, and those are the things that I hold valuable to me.
