Today we’d like to introduce you to Slane Glover
Hi Slane, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started out as a young kid who wanted to become a WWE superstar. My parents helped this dream come true by buying me a trampoline so I can envision myself jumping off the top rope as a highflyer superstar. After I got pretty skilled on the trampoline, I wanted to learn how to do a flip on the ground. I wanted to be the coolest kid at playground so my parents put me in a cheer and gymnastics summer camp. They taught me how to do a backflip and asked me if I wanted to become a cheerleader. I said hell no! I am a sick trick parkour bro I’m not gonna wear sparkles. So they came in the next day and manipulated me a little bit. Slane, we have a Flip for like you come in tonight at 6:30. OK I showed up and there were 30 girls and guys doing sick tricks in sparkles. I was hooked. I dedicated my time to the sport for 10 years and here. I am now cheerleading at the D1 level at the Ohio State University.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh no, not one bit. I struggled athletically for a long time as a 6’1 guy. I was not the strongest and most athletic kid. I didn’t succeed in really any other sport other than cheerleading. For this I experienced quite a bit of degrading and bowling. Stick to the sparkles, Cheer-queer, Butterfingers (I couldn’t catch a ball to save my life), or some names I were deemed in middle school in high school. Cheer was what I loved though I stay true to it and it is really what made me happy. I also struggle to balance a lot of things in my life. When I made the switch to Cheer at the next level in Miami Florida, I drove an hour and a half to Miami and back 3 to 5 times a week From freshman to senior year in high school.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in leading cheers and doing cheerleading stunts at the highest and most elite level. I am known for spinning skills, especially. But personally, I’m known for my positivity, big smile and limitless energy. I am most proud of my skill to smile, I learned it from my grandmother who was the absolute queen of smiles. I never failed to see her light up the room. I think my perspective sets me apart from others. I think I am well-versed in, for a lack of a better word, not giving a fuck. I will do what I want to do. I will uplift others to do what they want to do and since I saw my family and my grandmother believe in me and others as much as they did themselves, I carry that along with me every single day
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the vibes of Columbus. The diversity here is literally insane. There is no specific vibe that you have to fit here in Columbus. Everyone can be themselves. Moving here has taught me a lot about individuality. It’s so awesome to see everyone support everyone. I always say to my friends back home when they asked me what Columbus Ohio was like and I tell them there is nothing special about Ohio, therefore, you can do anything in Ohio. It is an open terrain for all to grow in. I I strongly dislike the slushy and gray winters. I also do not like how there is not a lot of sunlight throughout the year. pain in the ass.
