Today we’d like to introduce you to SHAYRICE WATSON.
Hi SHAYRICE, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story is one of faith, bold decisions, and choosing purpose over comfort.
I followed what most would call the “traditional” path: went to college, got the degree, landed the corporate job. On paper, everything looked good. But in reality? I felt stuck. Every day I’d show up to work, sat in my office, and wonder if this was really all life had to offer. I craved freedom, flexibility, and purpose — and I just knew I was meant for more.
Then in 2020, during the middle of all the uncertainty, something clicked. I discovered the travel industry — not just as a traveler, but as a business opportunity. I’d always been the go-to girl for trip planning, the one organizing the group vacations, finding the best deals, and creating unforgettable memories. So when I realized I could actually turn that into income? That was my lightbulb moment.
I took a leap of faith and started my own travel business. I didn’t know everything, but I knew I couldn’t go back to the office, micromanage lifestyle. Within my first month, I hit the first leadership rank — Gold Builder — and I’ve been running with this ever since. Fast forward to today, I’m a full-time travelpreneur, hitting Director in Training, and now just recently promoted as 1-Star Director and securing a $12,000 raise and legacy business. I’ve helped hundreds of others launch their own travel businesses too. I’ve hit major milestones like Double Pinnacle back-to-back as one of the top bookers in my company out of 135,000, built a thriving team of leaders, and traveled across five continents — all while doing work that actually matters.
But for me, this isn’t just about booking trips. It’s about building legacy. I created The Legacy Travel Club to empower millennial women — especially Black women — to design a life of freedom, financial independence, and purpose through travel. I’ve watched so many of my business partners go from barely dreaming to living lives they never thought possible — and that’s what keeps me going.
So, how did I get here? By betting on myself. By believing that God wouldn’t place a vision in my heart without also giving me the tools to carry it out. My journey hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been mine — and it’s only just beginning.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh no, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road — not by a long shot. Honestly, stepping into the travel industry as an entrepreneur, especially through a network marketing model, came with its fair share of resistance. The moment I started sharing my vision and telling people I was building a business in travel, some folks looked at me sideways. I heard it all — “That’s a scam,” “You’re wasting your time,” “Nobody makes real money doing that,” and my personal favorite, “Isn’t that one of those pyramid things?”
It was tough. I had people I loved and respected doubting me — not because they didn’t care, but because they couldn’t see the vision God placed in me. And for a minute, I questioned myself too. I was walking away from a steady corporate job and choosing a path that looked nothing like what I was taught success was supposed to look like. But I kept hearing this voice — that inner instinct — telling me, “This is it. Keep going.”
That voice? That faith? It carried me through every challenge.
I struggled in the beginning with imposter syndrome, trying to prove myself to people who were never meant to understand my journey. I had slow seasons, frustrating days, and moments where I thought about going back to what was familiar. But I couldn’t ignore what I knew deep down: this path — though different — was mine. And it wasn’t just about me anymore. I had a purpose to walk in, and people I was meant to impact.
So no, it hasn’t been easy. But every ‘no,’ every side-eye, every late night and tough lesson — it shaped me. It strengthened me. And now I get to help others push past those same doubts, step into their purpose, and build lives they never thought were possible. I’m so glad I didn’t let other people’s limited perspectives stop me from following my calling. I’m here to tell you the traditional corporate model is not the only way. Building up someone else’s dreams, that’s the true scam to me. After waking up one day realizing since working at the age of 15 and a half years old, that there was more.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I love this question because it gives me the chance to share not just what I do, but why I do it.
I’m a full-time travel business owner, coach, content creator, and mentor — but what I really do is help people turn travel into a lifestyle and a legacy. Through my brand, The Legacy Travel Club, I help everyday people — especially millennial women — start their own travel businesses, create additional and multiple streams of income, and build lives filled with freedom, purpose, and experiences.
I specialize in showing people how to build wealth through travel. Whether that’s helping someone plan and launch their travel business, guiding a single mom to replace her 9–5 income, or coaching a woman who’s never seen herself as a leader to now leading a team of her own — that’s my lane.
I’m known for keeping it real, being relatable, and leading with heart. I don’t pretend that success happens overnight — I show the process, the grit, the grace, and the glow-up. I think what sets me apart is that I didn’t just build a business — I built a movement. I didn’t wait until I had everything figured out. I started scared, stayed consistent, and brought people with me.
What I’m most proud of? Seeing the ripple effect. Watching women who once felt stuck, broke, or overlooked now thriving — traveling the world, making real income, building teams, and showing up with confidence. That’s everything to me.
The Legacy Travel Club isn’t just about trips — it’s about transformation. It’s about showing people that they don’t have to settle, that there’s room for them in this industry, and that their dreams are valid. I’m building something that lasts — something that outlives me — and that’s what makes this more than just work. It’s my assignment.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my absolute favorite childhood memories was going to Orlando, Florida and visiting Disney World every single year with my family. That trip was our tradition — and looking back, it meant more than I even realized at the time. I grew up in what I’d call a middle-class household, but in the neighborhood I was from, traveling — especially out of state — just wasn’t common. Most of the kids around me had never even seen a palm tree in real life, let alone visited Disney.
But every year, like clockwork, my family packed up and made that trip happen. We had a timeshare at the same resort, so it became our “home away from home.” I remember the excitement of pulling up to the gates of Disney, the magic of seeing Cinderella’s Castle, and the joy of just being together with my family, disconnected from the world and fully present.
It wasn’t just about rides and characters — it was about memories. About bonding. About experiencing something different from our everyday life. Those trips planted a seed in me early on — they showed me what was possible, that travel could be part of your lifestyle, not just a once-in-a-lifetime thing.
And now, as someone who gets to help others create those same kinds of memories for their families, it all makes sense. That little girl who lit up at the sight of Disney is now helping other families create magic of their own. That’s the full-circle moment I’ll always hold close.
