Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Wadlington Megan Barnhart
Hi Samantha Wadlington, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We went to a local show called the Wool Gathering in Yellow Springs and fell in love with the people as well as the various colors. We have enjoyed fiber crafts but we immediately were like “we could do this, can we do this?! “Within a month we purchased equipment and were absolutely doing it….BADLY….but we learned through those trials and errors as well as fell in love with the ebb and flow of color on the yarn. We continue for this reason as well as the people. We like connecting with people through the fiber arts. It’s a wonderful community.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not always been a smooth road. We had to learn how to put our visions from our head onto the yarn as well as learn what dye style/method worked best for each of us. We learned really quickly that we needed to write down our recipes because without that we couldn’t recreate anything. And alas the oopsies were born. The positive is through all the struggles we have learned so much along the journey.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We hand dye yarn based on things that inspire us. From classic Disney movies, books we have read, our favorite TV show or things our kids enjoy, we find inspiration in anything and everything. I think our Moana inspired collection has been the biggest pride of ours. We put so much creative energy into that collection and it came out so beautifully, I don’t know how to top it! We are also pretty proud of our monthly club for 2025 inspired by the iconic scents from Bath and Body Works. I find it so fun to be able to look at a bottle of Cucumber Melon and create a stunning, wearable yarn.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
Oh gosh everyone! We are so lucky to have such a supportive family who are always our biggest cheerleaders. From parents, to spouses, to our kids, everyone has played such a big part in keeping us motivated. Other dyers that we have followed on social media or have become our friends through fiber festivals have always been around to help bounce ideas off of and cheer each other on.
