Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Le.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m Samuel Le and I’m the founder of Le’s Unlimited. I’m a videographer, district representative, brand ambassador, varsity athlete, and posse scholar.
My day-to-day is spent on campus where I am a student assistant or practicing on the track field. As a videographer at GMC, I coach a team efficiently in video production and live streaming! When I’m not working you can find me exploring the art of poetry writing or buying too many gifts for my friends.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I was always the only Asian guy anywhere I go. Vacation, school, my neighborhood, and even my grocery stores. My family’s culture, academic expectations, and Asian stereotypes played a significant role in my childhood. The pressure of Asian culture made me the odd man out in an all-white American society.
many Asian cultures value strength, resilience, and the well-being of self-sufficiency. This can cause Asian American values to clash with ones that are treasured in American cultures such as being expressive, loud, and collaborative. In my Asian family, it is common to not show emotions, while in a white family it is persistent for you to show your emotions.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My poetry is a way of experiencing many sleepless nights throughout my life. My poems are based on movies, heartbreaks, real-life events, or just my made-up fiction stories. From writing poetry, I put all my emotions into a piece of art. In a sense, I like to say I turn something tragic into something beautiful and magnificent…
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
As a young adult, one lesson I always tell my friends is to know the difference between enjoying your youth and destroying your future. As teens grow up, they have all the time in the world, but your future is what shines ahead of you. However, you are not proud of your past, you have to live for the future because the past will eat you alive.
