Daily Inspiration: Meet Rupali Lone

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rupali Lone.

Hi Rupali, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a Paper Quilling artist. Paper Quilling also known as Paper Filigree or Paper Mosaic or Paper Scroll is an art form where strips of paper are rolled into various shapes and glued together to form decorative art pieces. I was a stay-at-home Mom when I moved to the US in 2015 and was looking to pursue some hobby when I came across Paper Quilling. I always had an interest in arts and crafts and was fascinated with how strips of paper could be rolled, shaped, and glued together to form beautiful pieces of art. I started off making small items such as earrings and bookmarks for family and friends. With practice, I moved on to making intricate artwork, 3D miniatures, monograms, wall hangings, frames, magnets, and ornaments. With encouragement from my family, I created my Facebook page; Itzquilling, to showcase my art. I started attending local craft shows, doing custom orders, and conducting quilling workshops

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It would not be life if everything sailed smoothly. It has been the same with my journey as a Quilling artist. I have had my share of artist struggles. Since we had been moving quite a lot it was getting difficult to network in the local community and to find the right market for my art. Later with COVID, all in-person events stopped and that was a big setback for me

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am happy that I was able to learn a new hobby and turn that hobby into a passion. I specialize in creating 3D miniatures, monograms, frames, and ornaments from paper. I enjoy creating 3D miniatures the most as they are the very challenging, unique, different, and have a personality of its own. I am very proud that in Sep 2016, I was awarded a participation certificate by the Guinness Book of Records for most Quilled flowers achieved by The Quilling Guild of UK. What sets me apart from the others is that I am always open to the ideas my customers may have on how they would like a piece. For me Quilling is just not a business, it is something which I enjoy doing. I am happy to teach the art to others so apart from conducting workshops I started making free Video tutorials

Any big plans?
As things are opening, I am planning on doing more quilling, conducting workshops, and attend more in-person events. I am looking forward to start networking in local groups and galleries to showcase my art. I am also planning on devoting more time on making quilling tutorials and growing my community on social media. I am exploring more ideas to take my creativity to the next level.
