Daily Inspiration: Meet Ralph Sgro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ralph Sgro.

Hi Ralph, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Our business and story start with the love of beer. My business partner Ryan and I met across the bar from each other. We had the same beer preferences and shared the same passion for the industry. We both felt that if we teamed up, we could add to the growing Cleveland beer scene.

We quickly partnered up and started developing Terrestrial Brewing Company. We were mostly inspired by the neighborhood brewery scene in the Pacific Northwest and felt that Cleveland was lacking the in the neighborhood brewery department.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
“If everything was easy, we’d never know for sure when we’ve achieved greatness.”

It has been a long hard road, as most amazing things are. We’ve dealt with typical growing pains, as any startup business would feel. How someone faces the obstacles in their business is what makes a great owner.

We’ve always stuck to our morals and model. It takes time to grow a business, and you can’t rush it. We just launched a restaurant a few months back and feeling some deja vu.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I and our team are passionate about the art form of making beer. We’re constantly learning new trends and ideas in the industry. Our brew system is relatively small compared to most, which means we can take extra chances and experiment more. We can be the R&D brewery for our allies in the industry, which is a pretty open forum for professional brewers.

We all work together for the greater good, rather than holding trade secrets and being too competitive. What sets us apart, other than the experimentation that is, we focus on an experience rather than just slapping beer in a can and putting it on the local grocer’s shelves. We are a destination/neighborhood brewery.

What matters most to you? Why?
Preserving the art of beer making, and providing a safe, fun, lively place for people to get away from worldly chaos.

Beer doesn’t have to be pretentious or boring.
