Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Camp.
Hi Michael, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was raised in a small town in Ohio called Washington Court House. When I was 22, I did my first audition and landed a supporting role in a small film called The Pledge. After that film, I took a 5-year pause on acting to join the Navy, where I served 7 years out of Hawaii. During that period, I decided to get back into the acting ring, with Hawaii being a good location with how many productions came out that way. I had some initial success with Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Hawaii Five-O, and another small film called The Island, where I starred next to Mira Sorvino and John Savage. After that, I returned to Ohio, where I’m based today. Since being in Ohio, I’ve traveled out for several other productions, such as Magnum P.I., Mayor of Kingstown, and the upcoming Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley.
We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s not a smooth road, but it isn’t for any artist. Sure, you hear some oddball stories where people hit on their first project. But, coming from a small town with no connection to Hollywood, I had to start from the bottom and work my way up, which I continue to do today. It’s all about perseverance and not quitting.
Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a SAG Actor, Writer, and Director. I’m known for Hawaii Five-O, Magnum P.I., Mayor of Kingstown, and the upcoming Beverly Hills Cop. I want to keep pushing myself outside my comfort zone and participate in unique projects. I’m most proud of taking that first step and chasing my dream, which most people are too scared to do. Coming from having no connections in this business at all to where I am now makes me very proud, especially within a few short years.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and any essential lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Patience, patience, patience; manifest your dreams while realizing they take time. What’s for you will find you. Covid-19 was terrible, but at the same time, it helped me grow and discover a lot about myself.
