Today we’d like to introduce you to Mic Wreck.
Hi Mic, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My name is Michael Craig, but everybody knows me as MicWreck the Artist. I got started with doing music and fashion at a young age, getting exposed to it from my father and mother, Mike and Sharon, in the early 90s, listening to a lot of old-school R&B and Rap music, and studying fashion. I remember when my parents used to play the Commodores, Earth Wind & Fire, The Gap Band, 2Pac, Biggie, Bone Thugs & Harmony, and many more. As I got older, around 12-13 years old, old, I was tapping into the fashion a little more and would always get the new Jordans that I used to drop on Saturdays and couldn’t wait to get to school to show them off because I knew that I get attention from the girls. To complement the Jordans I use wear a lot of Ralph Lauren and Rocawear, where I got influenced by some of my favorite Artist Kanye West and Jay Z. Fast forward years later, around 16-17, I was in a rap group called Social Intelligence with my brothers Dana Saf and Emoney when I was at Glenville High School. At this time is where I was finding myself with the music and fashion and created the clothing line that I now have today called VOLERL’AME INTERNATIONALE, which was previously called FlySoul. I created this brand because I always loved clothes but wanted to stand out from everyone else and create a legacy. My vision with VOLERL’AME is quality garments that cover you and protect you by angels when you wear the brand. That’s why I incorporate the number 4 on a lot the clothing because it’s a number meaning “Angels always watching over”. I get a lot of inspiration from traveling, going to the art museum, and adding it to my art.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Honestly, it’s got its ups and downs tryna juggle everything, but it’s always a positive no matter what. In 2014, I moved to LA for my Music and Fashion so I could elevate my Art and lifestyle. In my duration of me staying in LA, I learned a lot about myself and what It was like being away for the first time on my own miles away. I went through my struggles of being a starving Artist, tryna find my way, where I met a lot of dope individuals like my bros Ski, Vike, Brian, and Mike, who helped me musically, and my bros Big Duke, Rocki, And many others. I remember being homeless in LA, living on a studio floor where I used to have to shower at the local YMCA in North Hollywood cause that was the only place I could bathe, but I never once complained because I knew what I wanted and didn’t mind going through what I went through to get me there.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a Musical Artist and Fashion Designer. I’m most known for making raw music, and my clothing line VOLERL’AME INTERNATIONALE. I am most proud of how far I have come this far and staying consistent for this amount of years. I hardly ever give myself enough credit because I’m always striving for more and never wanna get complacent. What sets me apart, honestly, is my uniqueness and originality overall. I got a lot of inspiration, but everything is raw and authentic and me.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
Honestly, I don’t believe in Good or Bad luck. I feel like the universe aligns you with whatever you put your most energy into, and mine happens to fall into Music and Fashion, which I truly love and give my all to every day.
