Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Koenig.
Hi Megan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I was a single mom of two girls going through nursing school and as one could imagine it was very difficult. I struggled financially and decided I needed to find something I enjoyed to help out financially. I made the decision to purchase a used camera off the internet and started offering themed mini-sessions, which is what really got my business started. Six months in I decided to buy a new, better camera and began offering boudoir photography sessions. Since offering boudoir sessions, I have shot over 200 sessions. I have clients ranging from northwestern Ohio and into northeastern Michigan, with occasional clientele in other adjacent states. I also offer family, maternity, cake smash, senior and wedding photography. I love all of my sessions, but boudoir has been my true passion. I love being able to uplift women and watch their confidence rise to the surface through the lens of my camera. My ultimate goal is to travel and share my boudoir session experience with beautiful women all over the United States.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have had a few obstacles to overcome the last three years, but the biggest one was moving an hour away. I lost a large portion of clientele and was in a town where I was not connected with many people. It took a lot of advertising through social media platforms. Since moving, I have slowly built-up clientele from the Perrysburg and Toledo area.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in boudoir and family photography. I am known more for my boudoir photography work and I am very proud of that! I have heard from many of my clients that within minutes they feel very comfortable when typically, they would feel exposed. They can feel that I care about getting to know them and I think that sets me apart from other photographers. I truly do care about the person in front of my camera. Before we begin the session, I want them to feel comfortable. I want them to tell me about themselves, I want them to laugh and I want to assure them they are beautiful.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My advice would be to research other photographers via social media. Doing so, I have gained several mentors who have made me more knowledgeable about certain aspects of photography. When it comes to networking, my advice would be to create business pages via social media and invite everyone to your page. Creating a page will allow happy clients to bring possible future clients to your page.
