Daily Inspiration: Meet Matt Erickson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Erickson.

Hi Matt, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
When I was a kid, I spent most of my time dreaming up stories. As I got older, I realized I didn’t just want to tell stories—I wanted to be part of them. While pursuing a degree in journalism, I studied abroad in Paris and interned at a magazine. That season of life—marked by art, culture, and new friendships—quietly shifted my path. I began documenting the people around me with more intention, drawn to the way a single image could hold meaning, movement, and memory all at once.

After returning to the States, I started building my business with the belief that photography isn’t just about preserving moments—it’s about honoring them. It’s the ability to see a story unfolding in real time, and to translate that into something tangible.

Nearly ten years later, that sense of purpose has only deepened. I married my wife Amanda in 2016, and we welcomed our daughter Chloe in 2024—two joyful milestones that continually remind me why I do what I do. It’s a privilege to document stories that matter and create work that will only grow in meaning with time.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The path hasn’t always been direct—more like a winding road with its fair share of quiet stretches and unexpected turns. There have been moments of doubt, days when the work felt heavy and the progress felt invisible. But even in those seasons, something kept calling me forward. When I reflect on where it all began, I’m reminded that growth doesn’t always announce itself loudly. Sometimes it shows up in quiet confidence, in the deepening of craft, and in the trust of the people I’m honored to work with. That reflection softens the hard days and re-centers me on what matters most: creating meaningful, lasting work that celebrates love, connection, and the stories we’ll want to hold onto.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Wedding Photographer, a storyteller, and an artist. I want to create images that last for generations. Over the years, I’ve learned that the most moving images don’t come from perfect settings or poses—they come from trust. The kind of trust that allows a couple to be fully themselves, to let me in, to share the quiet glances and honest laughter that tell their story best. While my process has grown and refined through years of experience, it’s always been rooted in intention. My love for film has only deepened that mindset. Film demands presence. It renders color and emotion with a richness that feels both artful and enduring—and it’s shaped the very way I see. I believe your story deserves to be photographed with that same kind of care: beautifully, honestly, and with heart.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My biggest advice is to work on the business side as much as the creative side. If you can balance the two (the creative side is always more fun, but the business side is just as important!), you will definitely thank yourself in the future.
