Daily Inspiration: Meet Maelana Crockett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maelana Crockett.

Hi Maelana, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I began Marvel at Mae’s Designs during the peak of the pandemic in August 2020. My daughter contracted COVID, and I was quarantined with her for 2 weeks, bored out of my mind! I decided to put my creative skills to use and began watchin YouTube videos of balloon decor tutorials. I practiced non-stop, and the rest is history!

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a struggle balancing Marvel at Mae’s Designs, working a full-time job, and being a single Mother of 2. Many of days, I have to work late while my toddler is sleeping or enlist my teenage son to keep his sister occupied while I work. Making it a team effort has helped a ton!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in one-of-a-kind balloon decor. To make events one of a kind, I take pride in getting to know my customers on a personal level to ensure their ideas are brought to life. I love to try new things and challenge myself to create designs that will long lasting impressions for my clients and their guests. From the decorations to the backdrops, I help my clients build their event decor from the ground up.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the diversity of our city. You have so many different cultures and ethnicities in Columbus and the surrounding areas. Which is great for my business because there is always a celebration going on somewhere.
