Daily Inspiration: Meet Macy Jacob

Today we’d like to introduce you to Macy Jacob.

Macy Jacob

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I began acting in theater when I was very young, but I was never very good at singing or dancing. I realized later on that my passion was for acting more than performing in musicals. I became very eager to take acting classes when I was around 13. This led me to meeting a lot of other actors and discovering exactly what it was that I wanted to do. Since then, I have been on a journey, though very difficult at times, to make film acting into my career. I used websites like Actors Access and Backstage to grow my resume, as well as connecting with other actors and filmmakers. I now am signed with Heyman Talent Agency, have been in several shorts and feature films. I also co-own an independent production company called Frozen Beach Films out of Columbus. I am inspired by actors like Jennifer Lawrence, Jim Carrey, and Natalie Portman.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are a LOT of great actors in the industry, meaning that I may not booking a majority of the roles that I think I could be great for. Comparison and competition can be very difficult for me to overcome, and that is something I have struggled with since the beginning. I know that all I can do is try my best, be true to myself, and not give up.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Most recently, I played a lead role in the Lifetime movie “The Pregnancy Promise.” This was a very big deal to me because it was my first time seeing myself airing on TV. Since then, I have been a part of several short films, which play at short film festivals around Ohio. Being a part of big and small projects always remind me why I love this career. I love what I do because it gives me the opportunity to put myself in another persons shoes. To see what it feels like to be someone else, to think like someone else. Acting can be very freeing in that way. I am most proud when I push myself and do things that I never thought I could do. I think what sets me apart is my honesty and self-awareness… I can be very critical, and I am always trying to learn and grow. I have never felt like “I am the best.” And I think that’s a good thing.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The entertainment industry is seeing a lot of big changes right now, and I’m sure that will continue. With technology getting smarter and smarter, some people want to rely on that rather than on the professionals who have been in the industry for years. This is freaky. But I don’t think that audiences will ever prefer seeing CGI or AI over real performances. I am very happy to see a rise in female directed films, such as Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, being popular in the mainstream. I believe this shift will be hugely important to the continuing success of the entertainment industry.

In 5-10 years, I hope to see more women, POC, and international filmmakers and actors being represented in the industry.
